isanbirder
I've seen three or four in Buriram in the past six years, and others have told me they've seen them. There's a thread about it way back.
jamles
They were quite common in Korat when I was stationed there in 1971-72. I haven't seen one anywhere in Thailand in recent years. What happened?

masuk
I saw them a bit in Java, and was told they were originally imported from India to help keep the snakes down.
klikster
How are they against rats & tookays? I assume that getting a mongoose for the yard is a no-no if neighbors have chickens? How territorial are they -- stray or stay "home"?

How territorial are they -- stray or stay "home"? Supposing Thailand has strict laws about trapping/catching native wild life?? Tokays are part of the natural environment, not introduced pests like roosters up and about at 4am. I would think that a mongoose is a ground animal, whereas a tokay tends to live high up. Rats are taken care of by snakes which are taken care of by mongoose. Tokays, ask a Thai neighbour or a pellet gun?
