If you saw a photo you would figure it out real fast! :o

Never even saw it.

Me either, but someone posted one here somewhere and it looked exactly like a spotted dick (unless they were pulling some Americans leg). :o

The photo that I saw had the dough in the middle shaped like a sausage or a sex organ.

Must have been a joke. :o

I used to have a landlady that made bread and butter pudding to die for :o

From Wikipedia “Dick is the corruption of the word dough”

Corruption? <deleted>, and the Brits are always on us Americans for corrupting the English language. At least we don’t name our deserts after our genitalia. :o

Many sources have it as a corruption of ''pudding'', but if the great unwashed wikis say it's a corruption of ''dough'' they must be right ...

Well at least dough and dick start off with the same letter. In either case it is quite a corruption to push things as far as dick, is it not?

Then again with the large world market for Viagra maybe pudding and dick are really not that far apart? :o

Spotted dick dates from a time when dick was not a term for the, well, 'dick'. Also this use of the word 'dick' is just another corruption of another word. Dick can also mean 'private investigator'. Check a good dictionary.

A word about spotted dick, the pudding, it is fantastic when well made. It is best with custard, a real winter warmer. it is easy to make and also readily available in the shops in the UK.

Don't think so. In the UK Jam is a preserve made from real fruits and, added to toast for breakfast or, to desserts. Here Jelly is a dessert, comes in a rubbery concentrate that you add water to then set in the fridge, kids love it. :o

Jam and jelly are different here as well. Now a jelly doesn't have to be jelly, when it was first made it was preserves. It's a thin cake, like sponge that gets a creamy whip and jam spread all over it and then it is rolled up.

What you are describing is known in English as a "Swiss Roll" heaven only knows why. Nice with custard though.

I think I have heard that used here too. When hostess started making jelly rolls for the masses I believe they called them Swiss Rolls.

What about if it was a sexy man with freckles??? :o

I have seen Auntie Bessies in TOPS this morning. I think it was 175/9 baht. In the freezers.

I don't fancy it, I can't stand dried fruit either so I'm with the poster who said that, the one who mentioned jam roly poly though, you're in trouble, I need to track down a source of suet now..................................... :o

Gonna cook me up a nice big roly poly of jam and cover it with home made custard, none of that Birds gear, the real deal - milk, flour, vanilla pod...... :D
