Is anybody else growing this species? I've got a few clumps that I planted about four years ago and am very happy with the growth. This is the world's largest black bamboo and retains it's color when dried. Beautiful when growing or for furniture once cut. Last year's culms were about 4", they will be bigger this year, once mature it should have diameters of up to 8".

Nice. Retains colour when dried?? Really. Must make beautiful furniture. Where are you located?

We're in Nakhon Nayok.

I remember you planting these and have often wondered about the results. Still any plans to use it for building?

I'd love to use it for building, but it's not mature and there's no where near enough of it. Should be plenty for furniture though. We did build a bamboo house from the the green variety of this species.

Your bamboo house is absolutely fantastic. I live in Saraburi and am thinking of building something similar. Have you any idea of the cost of bamboo to build a house that is about 100 Sqm?
