Half of new graduates will not get jobs: Thailand

Featured Replies

There is a lot of talk about being ready for the Asean community, much of this talk is at the big business end but the free movement of people is likely to have a big impact on everyday jobs in Thailand and may be just the shock factor that the education system requires.

Where remuneration levels are greater than or or par in Thailand when compared to other countries we are going to see a significant influx of people with very strong English skills, consider the Philippines for example where English is regarded as one of their native languages I expect their will be high demand for equally skilled people from there as the communication skills will give them a significant edge over local resources.

It will not just be the graduates impacted but also experienced resources, nurses, teachers, nannies, managers and also expats who are hired primarily for their communication skills, it will create more viable alternatives and create more competition for jobs in the market.

Unlike politics which has protectionism in place on this front, the education system may just be better to embrace this and leverage from this opportunity of more skilled communicators in order to improve the future competitiveness of Thai graduates within the region.
