question: I have 7 one month visas in my passport. My 30 days will be up on may 10 yet my flight to America is on the 13. Should I risk another border run to Sadao and bring along a copy of plane ticket or should I just pay a fine right before I leave Thailand?

You are asking your question in the wrong place.

You will pay an overstay fine of 1000 baht or you could go to immigration to apply for a 7 day extension that costs 1900, If you have more questions please do a post here in the Thai visas forum. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/forum/1-thai-visas-residency-and-work-permits/

most people get 15 days at the border whereas Americans (and a few others) get 30 days. I thought that the seven day extension only applied to the tourist visas which can only be obtained at a consulate/embassy and extended at immigration. Also I kinda doubt that Hatyai immigration will be operating normally for a while after the bomb attack that occurred a couple of hours ago. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/724067-bomb-explosion-at-hatyai-police-station/?p=7782362. As much as I love Malaysia I do not want to be stranded there if there is an actual crackdown occurring for habitual border runners’ right before my flight

They do the 7 day extensions for 30 day visa exempt entries all time.

I would check with immigration tomorrow to see if the office is open.

It is up to you to decide what to do. Even the 3 day overstay at 500 baht a day is not that bad an option.

I may head to the border tomorrow and show them my online ticket in hopes of getting one more 30 day stamp. My gut feeling is that the Hatyai immigration will be closed until they repair the damage to the building and investigate what happened.

Encouragement?

I think I'd feel really bad if someone I told 'it's not too bad an option' got detained for overstay.

Reading the news it does not seem there was any damage to the immigration office,

There was post from a member that was at immigration when the bomb went off.
