So happy to work with Jose he's coming for free no doubt

Er....yes carmine. I think the meaning of a 'free transfer' is we get him without having to pay any wonga.

Apart from his wages and bonuses. smile.png

Reckon goals/transfer fee ratio could be fkcing brilliant then. smile.png

Walking sticks instead of corner flags at the Bridge could set us back a bit though.

I would estimate that cost to be about £30.

( But hang on.... there's some bloke in Asia saying Drogba's back at Chelsea. So one shirt could cover the cost of the walking sticks. wink.png )

Both Sky and Beeb reckon that Southampton's RB, Calum Chambers, 19, is coming to Arsenal for a reported 16m. No mention of wages that I can find. Would be interested to know in the light of Morinho's comments yesterday about the 100,000 a week to be paid to Luke Shaw by Manchester United (nice one Jose, getting the early punches in for the psycho war aheadsmile.png. Van Gaal reported to be intending to speak to Jose about that one - would love to be a fly on the wall).

Arsene must be confident this kid can be outstanding if he's paying that much for a position that is already covered (Debuccy and Jenkinson). Either that, or he sees Debuccy at 29 as a short term fix only or he has designs to develop Chambers as a CB to replace BFG Mertesacker.

Would be interesting to compare value for money (past and prospective) at the end of the season -

Luke Shaw MU 19.0 yo (27m/5.2m)

Calum Chambers Arsenal 19.5 yo (16m/?3.1m?)

Mattieu Debuccy Arsenal 28.9 yo (10m/?3.6m?)

Filipe Luis Chelsea 28.9 yo (16m/?3.6m?)

Amounts are as reported, except where indicated (pure guesses instead)

Are Southampton:

* planning on putting out a pub team this year and accepting relegation

* planning on playing the academy and then selling off the ones who show good at the end of the season upon relegation

* planning on going on an international bargain hunt in the last couple of weeks in the window

* hiding from the press the fact that they have already made multiple replacement signings that this football enthusiast somehow missed

Anyone?

they've signed a few decent prospects, mainly from the dutch league. not of the quality they're replacing though.

don't think jay rodriguez will be heading to anfield fwiw. reckon we're done pillaging them poor sods now.

Financially it might make perfectly good sense to the owners at Southampton.

A bit like the Newcastle scenario with Ashley.

Ie. compete at a level they know they can make money from. No point trying to compete with the big money boys like City and United ( and now Liverpool smile.png )

Will Southampton win the Prem? Nope.

Will Southampton get relegated? I don't think so.

Southampton owners are probably quite happy atm.
