World Cup gamblers are being arrested in the Northeast

Following the kick off of the World Cup 2006 in Germany, provincial police officers in the 3rd region have disclosed that many gamblers have been arrested in the eight northeastern provinces of Thailand.

Pol. Lt. Col. Sathaporn Laotong, the Commander of the 3rd Region Provincial Police, said a special team of officers has been assembled to curb gambling problems in the lower parts of the eight northeastern provinces.

From the 9th to the 11th of June, a total of 16 World Cup-related gamblers were arrested with approximately 1.4 million baht in stake.
