For Koh Samui.....

Yes, Yes and Dunno.

TOT is terrible at times

3BB is the best of the bunch

CAT fibre optic now available and also Truemove. Not all locations yet.

All of the above differs by location on the islands - I am in Plai Laem. (NE)

I find 3BB in Maenam excellent on the 13 mbs (or is it gps I never remember) But use for streaming IPTV and use the computer at same time....

Never hear of good reports for TOT.... A friend with ADSL service from CAT is no better than what I have with 3BB. but it may vary from one area to another...

As for KP ... some areas are good, from what I have heard, but not sure which!!

(hijacking thread ;-) )

Anyone knows a high speed LAN near Mae Nam where I can upload approx. 15 GB of data quickly? We need to get pictures to our client ( we want to upload to our dropbox account). WiFi takes ages.

The internet cafe with the fastest leased line on the island is Sawadee IT Complex near Lamai. It's just near Beach Republic. Between Lamai and Silver beach.

You'll get upload speeds for overseas connection at around 10 mbit/s and for IPs within Thailand, up to 100 mbit/s.

You can either use their wifi or connect directly to their LAN.

So here I am at the Sawadee IT Complex. Connected the Macbook to LAN cable, and - lo and behold - maximum upload speed is

200 KB/ sec ! WHich is only slightly faster than delivering a postcard! They told me that LAN connection is "same same" as WiFi. Holy cow I need to get those 18 GB of data to Europe ASAP!! Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!

Fastest is to burn on a Blueray and DHL it to your client.

Upload speeds are generally a fraction of download speeds, and depending on which international destination you are trying to upload to, the speed really drops down from Thailand. Even a top of the bill leased line in Bangkok wouldn't get you over 4 or 5 Mbps upload to Europe. So when the connection holds it would take 36,000 seconds or 10 hours to upload your data.

My office is upstairs and I used to upload stuff by connecting a harddisk to their PCs in the cafe and I'm getting the upload speeds I told you.

But it has been over 1 year since I uploaded.

I went downstairs and asked them and they told me they are now capping the speed to only 200KB/s.

Such a shame, before I was able to upload at blazingly fast. 10 GB would be done within 1 hour.

I can upload from our office, which gets a stable 350 KB/s. 18 GB should take less than a day...

I have an FTP on a datacenter in Netherlands. I can upload to my FTP, then give you the login to the FTP, then you can transfer it from the FTP to where ever you like. This way I won't need to know.

You can just copy your files to a USB drive and give me. PM me if you are interested.

For security, you can encrypt your data with winrar or similar program.

That is a very good upload speed. But there are reports that providers cache the Speedtest.net test file locally, in which case the test result does not show real international speeds. Don't know the details, but read here on TV several times that there are other more reliable speed tests to use.

I am sure that you are correct Gulfsailor. Over 30 years in the IT industry and it's still all Greek to me. (Mind you - no internet back in 1968.)

I have never found numbers that really match 'perceived' on-line tiimes. When I am in a rush - the internet is always slow. When I make a mistake - the damm thing moves at the speed of light.

I don't know these acronymic speed units. They confuse me. All I know is at home I have DSL 8000, whatever that means, so I have a download speed of 8000 somethings (kilos? meters? miles/hour? Euros?) and an upload of 750 "units". bit or byte or kilobyte or megabyte or - bit per what the f.... I will never learn the internet.

Yes, 8000 is probably 8 Mbit download and 750 kbit upload.

Is that your speed here in Thailand? This seems to be the standard speed here in Thailand, but not in Europe. Should be maybe 10 times this speed in EU nowadays.

I use 30 Mbit down and 2.5 Mbit up cable at home, which translates to 30000 and 2500.

Here at my office it's capped at exactly 350 KByte/s both up and down. So download speed sucks, but upload is faster than most places with cable or DSL.

That is indeed a very impressive upload speed!

Is that one of their hotspots?

No - I have installed fibre optic to my house.

More expensive to install - but they provide a better and more reliable service than most of the others that I have tried. (CAT,TOT, 3BB,AIS, Truemove.)

Early days with them at the moment, but so far so good. Very Happy.

Very interesting! The download speed isn't really to write home about, but such upload speed is amazing, 10x faster than the average DSL! I may have use for such a thing in the near future.

How much do you pay for it?
