Length of stay in case of stolen passport

Let's consider following situation for someone coming from 30 day visa exemption country:

1. Person's passport get stolen when he's in Thailand

2. He obtains new passport from embassy while in Thailand

How long is he allowed to stay in Thailand with this new passport?

You would only be able to stay up to your original permit to stay that you got from your last entry that was stamped in your lost passport,

How will the immigration know ones original stay permit end date (in case there is no copy of lost passport)?

I would guess they look it up on their computer !

They certainly could find your entry and permit to stay dates in their computer system.
