BANGKOK: -- Bomb disposal officials yesterday found seven home-made bombs and two ping-pong bombs inside Lumpini Park, a day after the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters moved out.

One of the bombs, which did not have a detonation circuit attached, was made of emulsion explosives used for industrial purposes. The bomb would have had a lethality radius of five metres, which would be increased if it inside a gas cylinder, explosives ordnance disposal (EOD) officer, Pol Sub-Lieutenant Narong Bootamthan said.

The bombs were found after a team of EOD officers led by Pol Colonel Kanthorn Auicharoen checked the PDRC rally site at 2.30pm yesterday. The bomb was inside a backpack that allegedly carried the identification card of Nakhon Si Thammarat-resident Naruethep Chukerd, 23.

Lumpini Police Station chief Pol Lt-Colonel Samak Panyawong said Naruethep will be summoned for questioning.

EOD personnel also found six home-made pipe bombs in the water-management section of the park. Three were hidden inside an empty water tank and another three in a garbage bag on top of the tank. The team also found 10 bullet-proof vests and fireworks.

Meanwhile, the two ping-pong bombs were found under a tree, close to where the protesters were rallying. Police also found a lot of debris from firecrackers inside a box close to where the security guards' tent had been.

Separately, the 17-year-old wife of Thanakrit Pinwises, an ice deliveryman who was stabbed close to the Channel 5 TV station where the PDRC was rallying on Saturday night, spoke to police and psychologists at Phya Thai Police Station yesterday. Police said they only knew that the attackers were dressed in black and their faces were covered as the closed-circuit cameras nearby were only dummies.

Interesting that the police are backing away from the assertion that the PDRC guards were responsible.

Sure. The protesters clean up after themselves, but they leave their bombs behind.

No, your beloved whistle-blowing, gun-toting mob did not clean up. The cleaners were hundreds of local council workers. Sa-nguan Phattumanond, a park cleaner, said there was a huge amount of rubbish left behind.

Who?

Yes, of course they left a bag of bombs behind, how forgetful, and thaksin is innocent, it was all political, and he never bought any votes, and.....oh, the tooth fairy is knocking on the door, gottta go.

LOL...and who were the ting tongs on here that said I was being ridiculous and over reacting for calling for a phase 2 and checking tap water? Basically, explosives have some real nasty stuff in them. Even for the current standards of BKK. Now, learn how to do your jobs and it hurts being proven wrong...doesn't it? I told you there are too many variables, including the human one, to know everything is okay and will go back to normal. Lumpini needs a phase 2 assessment done ASAP.

Gee fancy leaving all that behind, including your own ID card. very convenient.

Considering the gross incompetence shown by these people to date, why are you surprised?

What will be your excuse when various PDRC members' fingerprints are found all over the items?

How convenient to find explosives the day after their rally wad gone! So basically they could have been planted. Seems Naruethep is either pretty stupid to leave a backpack with his ID card and a bomb inside. Or a good way for someone to point the finger at him

Also does any one else see it as strange they found several bombs on top of a water tank with more hidden in plain sight. This smells like a set up big time.

I find it strange that bombs were found inside water tanks if simply left behind

Pity that they did not clean up... Even the PDRC journalist Michael Yon put some pictures yesterday with the rubbish devastated park.

Staff from BMA is doing the cleaning.

And about bombs discovered... They could have been planted, or be left behind, nothing changes. Violent thugs are on both sides, so nothing is a surprise anymore.

Exactly. The bombs could have been planted but it is just as likely they actually belonged to PDRC guards as claimed. Neither one is out of the realm of possibility. However, the PDRC trashed the park, and given the amount of time they occupied it, probably aren't even aware of what was left behind.

The PDRC came out with a clever PR campaign to "clean up the park" before they left. All they did was get a handful of BMA employees and cameras and many people fell for it.

Only a fool would believe protesters would accidentally leave they bombs behind.

Only these anti government protesters are fool enough to leave bombs behind. The Red Shirts would have already used them.

If they left that much behind, just think how many bombs the peaceful protesters took with the.

That is purely speculation, there is no evidence at this time that they belonged to a protester or were transported and cached at the site by red shirts.

Even the one found in a backpack with an ID, unless they can fond prints on the device, the backpack was abandoned and there is no way to tie it back to the owner of the pack. The device could have been planted after he abandoned the pack.

I am apolitical, before you start with your accusatory namecalling ;-)

They have been doing so on a regular basis.
