alphason Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Booked a very cheap airasia flight a while ago from Phuket > Udon Thani (400Bht pp) in view of having to go to Savannakhet Laos for a new Non O multi visa in October (assuming they still do it by then). I chose this airport because of the silly price and its a direct flight from Phuket. Now I have started to look how to get to Mukdaham/Savannakhet from Udon Thani Airport, does any bus service does this route? arrival time is around 5.30pm Thanks
angsta Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 It isn't what you might call a convenient airport for Mukdahan. A night in Udon might be on the cards. There will be a bus from the main station in Udon but I have no idea have often they run or how long it will take. Good luck.

Thanks, yes I know there are easier airports but not direct from Phuket, so it would mean going via Bangkok, 2 flights or flight and long bus trip, I thought for the bargain all in price it got us near enough. Don't mind a night in Udon, wife is coming along for a holiday also this time, so sure we will find the way - thanks.

It's a green and white bus that goes from Udon to Ubon Rachatani, via Sakon Nakhon. Not VIP, but OK. From Udon it runs in the mornings, First bus about 05:30, last bus 12:30. it will take about 4 hours or so to get to Mukdahan. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx FYI, more comments and info at the url, take a look. FACTOR Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Maybe I'm missing something, like you can only get the visa in Savannakhet (?), but if you're flying into Udon Thani, why don't you just cross the Friendship Bridge at Nong Khai, 52 kms from Udon, and then go straight to Vientiane? Can be done easily in taxi. 1
asanee Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 what is best is not the only choice, but as many TVusers have such (idiot) wishes sometimes: you have to go into town first, Ud has 2 busstations, ask taxi to take you to the one for Mukd_Ubon, he will know. There MAY be later buses as 12.30, coming from further away~with the chance they are full, there wil also be non AC buses, taking longer', as many morestops. Thai local buses stop running around 18-19=dusk. OR take a nite in Ud and go on next day~as its 4~5 hrs, you will arrive too late for Thai consul in Savkhet, as you also have to go via bridge into Laos etc. There MAY also be the odd overnite bus ex ChMai or so, passing UD in the mid of night.

Mac Thanks I did see this year old posting, but could not find much else so was looking for confirmation. Timing would mean an overnight stay in Udon and then missing the consulate opening times the next day in Savan, maybe there is a mini van service that has later times?
