I'll be on a sort of tour of Isan and would very much like to know of any recommendations within say a 30km radius of Udon. I don't care about pool or other common facilities. I will have my own car so the location doesn't matter.

(In fact if anyone has other recommendations elsewhere in Isan, those would be welcome too.)

Thanks

I was hoping for a recommendation coming from actual experience.

Incidentally, does Agoda scoop up everything above say 1000 baht, without exception? I guess that's what I had in mind too.

In Na Klang (about 70km west of Udon on 210) there's a nice little resort called "Nookid" (http://www.nookidresort.com/english/index.php). On the east of Na Klang (also on 210), there are a couple of resorts, one is "Pialo" (http://www.agoda.com/pialo-resort-swimming-pool/hotel/nong-bua-lam-phu-th.html). We've stayed at both; cost was 500 baht.

In Udon itself, "Tanita" was a very nice stay. I don't remember the cost, but I think it was in the $20USD range. http://www.agoda.com/tanita-lagoon-resort/hotel/udonthani-th.html?asq=v0rS0a1OqoRQ7bXy1Mh94jUYHg5orVgCTTHHi8DCrl2cEcMXOppq13GDTPJbEJW1

Thank you. I'll look into them.

I can't recommend places to stay but the road trip from Udon, starting near Kut Chap, thru Nong Bua Lam Phu to Loei is a really lovely ride; in my opinion, some of the best scenery in Isan. There are a number of resorts along the way and this time of year, you can probably get rooms unreserved.
