Pheu Thai Party is skeptical about Suthep's claim

Recommended Posts

It's not just Suthep. Politicians on both sides make outrageous claims backed up by promises to do this or that should they fail. Chalerm is still wearing his head, for example.

These people really have no shame, and Thailand would be better off without the lot of them.

They are Thai politicians, their lips are moving .....

Seriously though, the old Thai politicians have no sense of morality or ethics - they cheat on their families, they got rich by dubious means, they culture a network of patronage and indebtedness, their followers are either blinkered or abjectly subservient. The toothless media abet them - no incisive questions, no probing investigations. Hence there is no consequence to lying.

Here we go - Prompong is going to charge Surachai with sedition. Why not - he's charged everyone else with it. Dr. Seri is not a core PDRC leader. He is a speaker, and a highly admired one at that. But all that aside, whatever he says in a rally in Chicago - because among other things he is fully bilingual - is irrelevant. Is this what Prompong is going to build a case of sedition on ? What Dr. Seri says in Chicago ? Then get set to scan all the speeches Jatuporn has made - and all the claims he's made - and you're set for life in the world of litigation. Prompong has become a ludicrous symbol of litigation gone mad.

I believe Suthep will stop the protests next week but that does not mean he will give up on his and the majorities wish to rid Thailand of the Thaksin regime.

Particularly with this morning's announcement that all State Enterprise workers will be striking on 22nd May in support of his putsch and that CAPO has been put on high alert.

High alert, does that mean increase the booze stock?

This is Mr. Suthep speaking right? Remember his D-day statements? How many D-days have we heard. He is just rehashing his announcement. He has said one too many D-days and so now he is reinventing himself by saying he will Resign. I wonder how many resignation announcements he will eventually end up making?

Probably as many as Chalerm's "I will arrest Suthep" etc.

What I would like to know is how is protesting and giving a resignation letter to a caretaker minister illegal? Even staying and refusing to leave until the letter is signed and returned?

Now if they lay hands on them, or threaten to hurt them, that is a different story.

The PTP announcements seem seldom to be truthful when it comes to the law. I wouldn't be surprised to have them announce one day that a breakfast of cornflakes instead of rice is illegal.

If the majority want's it, why not have a vote over it? DUH!

The reason for the reluctance to have an election is obvious to most but this is what I think the reason is. It is because of the vote buying and intimation by PTP and the whole of the red shirt moment forcing the rural poor to vote the way they want. Would you gamble in a casino if you knew the house had rigged the tables so you could never win?

I can claim that the majority want to be rid of Thaksin I think he has lost support over the last six months there are no longer any populist policies left to fool the people that they will gain anything from them. No rice scam scheme, no free tablet computers, no first car rebates.

If PTP think they can win every election why not have reforms first and see what happens?

And why should a Thailand have a PM who does not even live in this country? Nobody voted for him in 2011. Did they?

Hmm... let's see, didn't Preu Thai win in 2011 by about 4 million votes. Accusing the other side of vote buying is a Thai political game, but the likelihood of vote buying changing the outcome of a Thai election is remote indeed. First, all parties buy votes to some extent. And second, if offered money Thais take it - and then vote however they wish!

As for Democrats not being able to campaign in the North and Northeast, they don't want to campaign there because they will lose and they know it. So they claim they can't campaign to avoid losing face. But in the South, Preu Thai candidates couldn't even register due to the registration venues being blocked by Democrats.

As for "reforms", the anti-government bloc will try to change the voting districts so that only the ammart party, the Democrats, can be elected. The 2007 charter was written by Democrats/ammart to help the Democrats win, but the Dems are so unpopular that even that didn't help them. So if you think the Dems will eliminate corruption, improve education, and so on, you probably wait up December 24th to see Santa! How much corruption did the Democrats eliminate during their recent 2 1/2 years in power? Why not?

You forgot that the Democrats aren't allowed to promote their politic upcountry, the mass media are under control of the Thaksin regime and there is massive vote buying and "organized voting". If Thaksin believes he can win in fair elections why he fights the reforms?

If Yingluck would have said: yes we must reform, give me your ideas and we'll implement them immediately, she would be a hero. Instead she pushed the Amnesty for Thaksin law.

Once again, people claim that Democrats aren't allowed to campaign or promote their agenda in the northeast, but overlook the fact that it was Suthep's thugs who were so successful in disrupting the February election they succeeded in having it invalidated.

And once again people say that unspecified reforms decided upon by an unelected committee with no firm date for elections and a return to democracy are a good thing, but most of the world disagrees.

Finally, once again people claim that fraud, vote buying and voter intimidation determine election outcomes, but offer no proof. Once again I'll quote the Economist from December 9, 2013 http://www.economist.com/blogs/banyan/2013/12/thailand-s-protests:

"Mr Suthep’s motley crew of acolytes and cheerleaders try to argue that somehow all of Mr Thaksin’s victories (in the various party guises) have been “bought” and that voters have been “bribed” by the promise of lavish public spending, to help poor rice farmers for instance. But there is almost no evidence that any of these elections were systematically bought or rigged in anyway. Indeed, the last election, certainly, was very well conducted by comparison with other recent elections in the South-East Asian region. Indeed, when pressed, one of Mr Suthep’s main advisers admitted to me that despite all the alleged vote-buying (which he produced no evidence for) the result was still “legitimate”. And the incontinent public spending programmes? In the West that’s called Keynesian economics."

That usually shuts down claims of vote fraud on one thread, but it always pops up again on another.

The whole world is skeptical of Suthep claims not just the Pheu Thai Party. He cried wolf too many times.

Can you give us a link anywhere in the world to back up your claim.

Try reading the foreign news media. It might be enlightening to you.

Yes, really enlightening but barely credible like the BBC. The whole world couldn't give a toss about Suthep or Thaksin. Just a few journalists who like to pretend Thaksin is a cross between Ghandi and Mandela, and conveniently forget all the lies and crimes; and a smaller number of extreme nutters who lean so far right they make Attila the Hun liberal and support the elites.

As a young schoolboy a long time ago we were always urged not to believe everything you read or heard in the media. The standards of integrity were much higher then than the blatant propaganda history re-writes peddled by many today.

Well. let's see. Start with Al Jezeera. There was an excellent article there this morning - "Time out for Thailand's Elites" that lays things out pretty well. Then try BBC and Ruters. If you can't figure out how to do that, then return your computer to the place you bought it, and when they ask why, tell them you aren't smart enough to use it.

NOTE: If you're a Suthepesta, Yellow, Royalist, Elitist, the Al Jezeera article might upset your sensibilities, as the truth usually does for both sides.

I trust you include the more than amply rich billionaire very elite Shiniwattra clan amongst those for whom the tome is running out. For they are no more interested in the people, reform or real democracy any more than the other elites.

Who was it wanted to buy for airliners for her government's private use? Nice they have their priorities in focus.

How can people who listen to him possibly believe him. The reason is those people only follow and don't think for themselves

Lets vote to see who got the backing of the majority, until then Suthep represent the minority of the minority.

Chalerm: I am coming to get you now...

Mr T: I will step away from politics....

Yingluck: No comments, at OTOP, shopping....

I would start believing it matey.

He has to get the protesters off the street by then.... all part of the per-organized plan.

The final blow will be struck and the reds will find themselves alone on the streets of BKK with the military ready to crack down on them when they start rioting..... hehehe

I believe Suthep will stop the protests next week but that does not mean he will give up on his and the majorities wish to rid Thailand of the Thaksin regime.

As part of the Sor Por Kor 4-01 (สปก.4-01) land reform scheme, Suthep gave title deeds to 592 plots of land in Khao Sam Liam, Kamala and Nakkerd hills of Phuket province to 489 farmers. It was later found that members of 11 wealthy families in Phuket were among the recipients. Suthep addressed a huge crowd in his Surat Thani constituency a month before a no-confidence debate and called on his supporters to march on Bangkok in the hundreds of thousands to defend his reputation.[5] The scandal led Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai of the Democrat Party to dissolve the House of Representatives in July 1995 in order to avoid the no-confidence debate.[6] In subsequent elections, Thai Nation Party won a majority, leading to the downfall of Chuan Leekpai's Democrat Party-led government.

Wikileaks diplomatic cables from the US embassy revealed that many members of his own party have long complained of his corrupt and unethical behavior.[7][8][9]

YES he's a man of his word

It is correct that previously they paid the money up front and some voters voted for the other side. However, both the Dems and Pheu Thai got wise to this and nowadays they pay after their candidate is elected. If the Party is satisfied that the majority of voters helped elect their candidate, the voters either get money via the Kaman, or an all expenses paid tour to Cha-am, Changmai etc. staying in a luxury hotel belonging to a party supporter. As for corruption by the Democrats, take a close look at the B15Billion Skywalk project under the BTS all the way from Siam to Samut Prakarn which was cancelled by Pheu Thai.

You are just making this up - aren't you? Your claim of having majority? If so, why the reluctance in having an election? Surely you favored political party would win outright majority - wouldn't you? But no! You don't want the election to occur. So there is something clearly WRONG with you claim of having MAJORITY.

There was a government attempt for reform and reconcilation last September in which Ahbisit declined to be in the committee. Short of memory?

Majorities? The majorities that keep electing democrats to the PM? Oh, you are like the rest of the elites and you want to believe that elections should be like golf where the lowest score wins, right?

Not too sure about majority but it would be very close. Reason no one wants elections (my old mantra):

The laws need to be changed first. It must be impossible for parties clearly convicted of electoral fraud to rejoin under another name (PPP, TRT, PTP).

The constituencies need to be divided such, that the seats in parliament come closer to the reality of the popular vote.

Then yes, please, by all means have elections and for this first time after all these troubles let an independent foreign body check if it is free and fair (incl vote buying by cash or by threats)

Why would the dems waste resources 'up country', they have shown over decades their lack of respect for the 1 in 3 voters who live there. The dems and in particular Abhisit will NEVER win in the northeast, not so much for what they have done, more for what they have not done over a very long period when they were in power. As for not being allowed to promote their politic, well I doubt PTP would have much success in Yala, Narathiwat or Surat Thani.

So you agree with all the thuggery at election time up north but not down south. How hypocritical of you
