Rampant corruption on both sides, now able to be discovered and prosecuted....but I think only a token amount of yellows will see court. Just a thought. The red shirt supporters of TVF have been effectively told to shut up. The yellow supporters have been given free reign to rant.

Centrists, like myself, think the whole thing is a melodrama. Of course I have an opinion about such takeovers, and hold it dear, but this is not the fight for any of us -- except the recently emerged new Thai TVF members who now want to be the thought police (only a few dozen I have seen).

Thais have the right to make their own mistakes -- every country has made mistakes, even the Netherlands (who have allowed a Muslim takeover of Potsdam-- yes, Ex-Kaaskop weight lifter, some of us know all about it....

Getting the last word in does not prove your viewpoint is better than another. Having ten people like everything you say does not prove your viewpoint is better than another. In short, your viewpoint is not better than another...some of you talk, but most of you rant and whine like rabid silver-backs.

This Assoc Prof Pavin Chachavalpongpun of Kyoto University has been one of the most controversial commentators with a clear leaning towards the reds. Some of his comments were outragiously ugly. A pity I never started to document them.

People should stop mentioning "democracy" when referring to the so called free and fair election which brought Thaksin's clan and followers to the helm. There are better ways to lie or demonstrating blindness.

The best we can hope for is a audit of the books now the civil servants don't have to fear for their jobs (and lives) and can give the information about corruption. Now we can clean up and make sure the Shins never take power again. Remember they slashed the budget of the NACC by 60% so they could not fight the corruption of the government.

Make some better checks and balances and make sure things are transparent then politicians cant steal (as much) and as a result of that vote buying and inciting violence and paid for protests will be gone as it is a bad investment.

So IF we get real good reforms I am for it, but IF the general stays in power I would join your side against him. I just see this as a temporary phase to strengthen the checks and balances the previous government tried to remove.

I want anyone who is corrupt to do time.. Suthep included. Now its much easier to prove as now this government can't stop investigations. For the future new strict laws that are enforced would help it not to happen again.

If everyone have to do time how about the army that made a fortune on the GT-200 scanners. They paid almost a billion Baht for the GT200 scanners and still insisted several years back that they saved live. Further more Prayuth he sits on the board of Thai Oil PLC and Thai Military Bank so all those rubbish I hear he is not in for the money but for the country is just bullocks.

Oh yes, I supported the military coup in 2006 because I thought the Thai army is able to clean up the mess that Thaksin left behind in the South, but Prayuth is a dangerous guy and I put him on par with Suchinda. I wish he would have shown some leadership in the South but this is above his military strategies.

The Thai Army should adapt the same way Indonesia did. Get rid of them in all commercial ventures including shut down Ch 5, 7, TGN and TMB and send them to the barracks back.

If Thailand really wants reforms they also have to start with the army, police, courts, political parties etc.

Its mind boggling. People who would be the first to moan about censorship suddenly becoming ardent supporters of it. Why should they be detained? Why should they report? Theyve done nothing wrong. Not even to the coup. In fact their only crime appears to be they refuse to come when ordered. Were they to do so, they would be tacitly accepting that the coup is somehow legitimate.

They have a choice as remarked somewhat glibly earlier in this thread, to report or not to report. But the passive tolerance of the outcome, as if this is in some way just a normal day in thailand and we're all in some kind of legal-rational framework here is remarkable.

And they also try to make sure both sides aren't corrupt at all, instead of leaving it to one corrupt side to point out the other sides greater corrupt nature.

Supporting Suthep to overthrow corruption in general is an absolute absurdity.

Suthep is a means to an end, I don't support him and if he can be proven to be corrupt take his ill gotten gains and put him in jail. I have no tolerance for corrupt government officials on either side.

I hope and expect the general to put in place some tough anti corruption laws.

But remember your side slashed the NACC budget (corruption fighters) by 60% and wanted to include 25.000 corruption cases in the amnesty. Kinda says it all.

PTP & UDD did their dirty deeds as if there would be no tomorrow. Now, as consequences rain upon them, the ubiquitous Thai smile seems to be gone from their faces.
