The idea the Thai army is scouring an English language forum to look for "reds," then linking it to immigration is obsurd in the extreme. Thailand has enough sanctions about to hit it without arressting foreign holidaymakers over what they wrote in an online forum hosted in a different country.

The ones caught would not be sent to jail, but spread over military camps, where for a few weeks they could enjoy a healthy, and sobering, life. Thailand has been to nice to all those foreigners that come to Thailand for the past years, so let the generals also clean up the immigration act and put it more on par with HK, Japan, Australia, Singapore etc.

For me, I have a PR so I am not worried about it as I paid millions of Baht in taxes.

Oh yes, in regards of overstay increase the amount to 250,000 Baht or three years jail. Illegal working in Thailand 500,000 Baht or 6 years jail.

If Prayuth can do this one I might forgive him for his coup but at least he get rid of those farangs which must be in the thousands.

I really don't understand what's the fuss about this particular law. It's like any other law. You either abide by law or not. If you are stupid enough not to abide by be prepared to face the consequences. As simple as that. This law doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's up to Thais to decide whether they want to change it or not.

I hope foreigners understand that its are guest here, and the Thai culture, economy, and social reality, have nothing in common with most of the western countries. With a very small territory and enormous population, Thai Government is totally right imposing limits to the right of foreigners, specially in the work place and in the land ownership. Foreigners trying to get around these limitations, are not making any favor to the ones living here respecting the Thai laws and rules....and may give reasons for the Government be even more restricted and vigilant.

There are many good reasons to oppose Thaksin but some of the TV PDRC supporters are coming across as pretty evil now. True colours and all that.

Well, I can appreciate the Junta's prosecution of violators of lese majesty law and coup orders as well as violators of internal security laws who will face court martial from the viewpoint of controlling the population during this "transition" period back to democracy.

But by suspending the Constitution with only the exception to Article 2 with the King as Head of State and completely disbanding all the elements of the Government (including the Independent Organizations), an accused would seem to have no rights from arbitrary and capricious prosecution. And being tried by a martial court operating under the sole legislative authority of General Prayuth might seem a conflict of interest. A better fascade of justice might be achieved if Prayuth restored the Administrative and Criminal Courts. Though if he did, it might not be surprising that he would maintain ultimate authority over any court decisions.

The dialog on these forums lately has taken a really ugly tone. I find it appalling that so many farangs have come out as cheerleaders for the current "situation", and seem to be calling for the removal or even liquidation of anyone who questions or objects in any way to what is coming down. They use words like "scum" and "trash" to designate the perceived enemy. I won't bother making comparisons to other hostile takeovers than have stained human history, but there is hope in remembering that they all came to a bad end, eventually.

Most of the posters come from countries where free speech is a given. They are not disrespecting their hosts when they speak their mind, they are merely acting as if they were still at home.

If I had to put 5 million in a Thai Bank account I wouldn't be able to help my wife and her family.

Non IMM based on marriage. Been coming since 2009. First four holidays and now half and half so I can earn money. May be here for longer now though.

There are still investigations ongoing.

The future does not look bright for Yingluck.
