OP Reminds me of a politician, speaks an awful lot but actually says nothing of real value or interest.

Charlie, nice to see someone has a good sense of humour - lol !!

I dare you to summarize your OP into one sentence. I double dare you!

When I first arrived here I saw expats living and working here on a big salary and could only dream of being like them. They were my heroes. Struggling early on, earning 11,000 baht per month and taking buses/baht buses everywhere, made them appear even more heroic.

Expats here are legends living the dream!

There's a great power in words, if you don't categorise too many of them together.

My, my. I feel well and truly put in my place. I shall no longer post, "As someone who's been here for 25 years ..." Thank you OP for making me see the light.

The problem is that you now have people who have been here for 30 minutes who think that they know all there is to know about Thailand, Thais and expats.

I have only been living here since 1998, so I have not been here as long as yourself and as such I still have a lot to learn before I am as versed in Thai daily life as yourself.

As I still do not fully understand all aspects of Thai culture, Thais and the expats, I will never come on here trying to self promote myself by telling everyone why my views are correct and everyone elses views are wrong.

The newbies that are posting these (trash) posts just do not understand this.

That is the magic of Thailand...

The longer that you are living here, the lesser that you understand what is going on.

He's apologising for writing bollx

i wish he'd use english

Your both are of no consequence to me. People like you are the reason people need medication.... grow-up !! I'm tired now of this BS so drop it and move on given that I have more to do in my life than keep pace with your pathetic innuendo.

Goodbye and thank you for your interest.

Good OP, very eloquent and an enjoyable read!

I tend to agree that there could be more helping hands on this forum.

Guess we should all try harder.

Thank you Globalist. Nice to see I have the support of a gentleman other than these animals one has to face in this ZOO !!!!!

Unfortunately as Scotland gains its independence ( which it might) , the inhabitants will no longer be a member of a G7 country - so 15 days max.

Otherwise really did not have a clue as to what you were on about.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Incidentally, what has Scotland's independence got to do with it?

i think everyone will agree the last thing thailand needs is more scots ...........

RACIST !!!!!!!!!!!

It amazes me how people deflect from the original post and casually drift into other outer spheres. Invariably it predisposes one’s basic understanding of why we even bother to try to get any intelligent answers to what seems to me a pretty informative blog which nobody as yet seems to have grasped the main reason for me questioning peoples in depth values towards others, thus for these entities who submit different topics. But now clearly realise, it just takes one drifter for the rest to follow his due course to utter some strange rants that have nothing to do with the real discussion.

If you don’t understand my topic (and don't have a clue) please don’t even bother to make any hideous replies!!!

Incidentally, what has Scotland's independence got to do with it?

It would seem you could of just provided the meat,

and saved all the water in your reply,

with a simple "Incidentally, what has Scotland's independence got to do with it?"

Just a thought...

Carry on as you were, or will...

Thailand is not a free country

There is no free speech

They want you in, spend, then out. If you have something to offer in the way of specialist skills, they want to squeeze as much out as they can - You pay taxes for which you get next to nothing in return, no rights no nothing.

Smiles all around to your face but You will be treated with nothing but contempt by the locals in your office who are simply incompetent and jealous of your position and salary. They do not want the western expat in their country earning money

I remember chatting with a guy who I had the misfortune to work with..He had been in Thailand for years and years. I mentioned that at the weekend I was going to Khaosan Road. He looked at me in disdain and said "Khaosaon Road? It's just full of backpackers"

He beleived that he was now superior to those people. What a <deleted>.

I have had "English teachers" act all "superior" to me and even instructed me into how to be Thaier than Thai, thinking I was a tourist, but much hilarity was had when I enquired how long they had been in Thailand and they said 12 months and when they enquired as when I had arrived to commence my time as a two week millionaire in Thailand, I said 12 years ago, I work here for a MNC, and please go away you spotty little git...wink.png.pagespeed.ce.HJgPQ3U3SA.png

Its the same as having to admit to an all-knowing "expat" that you have only visited Thailand half a dozen times as opposed to their twelve.

The difference is however the last visit was 17 years ago (all entry & exits on re-entries since then) and am still here. Not really worth mentioning details like that though...............wink.png

OP, what is the (your) benchmark to define your different classes of expat? I am honestly interested in knowing.

Forgive my ignorance and holier than thou approach, but why on earth would you think you would be entitled to live in a foreign country without a visa? and use all loopholes possible to avoid a fee for visa?

Can understand those for short few months to 1 year holiday, but there is absolutely no excuse for those living in Thailand full time

Yes it was a cosy loophole that now has been closed, and you want me to feel compassion for you? I pay for my visa yearly and i jump through all the hoops, why should not you?

Pray tell me how you in your superior address assume I am in the 30day visa bracket my kind fellow, Amazing how you reached this conclusion so quickly and basically you've just helped support my public address to my Post. I'm a professional person and don't take kindly to your assumptions which are really just impudent total verbiage rubbish !!!!

I plainly suggest you get your facts right before you spout out your accusations.

If you not in the 30 day visa bracket, then you have nothing to worry or complain about.

By the way, if you going to complain i suggest you get YOUR facts right.

There is NO 30 day visa, There is 30 day visa exempt stamp.

Visa.... Stamp.....why get so pissy over wording. You act like God Almighty with your correcting someone over whats its called. I've seen some on here get down right irrate over using the term Visa instead of Stamp. To most people in this World and yes there is a World outside of LOS.....Its Called A "VISA"

OP is absolutely spot on. I know my post count is meager and I would participate more except there are so many unmitigated pr!cks on here (mostly the old-timers) that jump all over anyone asking a legitimate question or making a valid observation. I don't need that aggravation in my life, so mostly I lurk on these forums. Too many people wear their post-count or years-in-country as some sort of battle medal which (to them) is evidence of some sort of vapid superiority. It would be funny if it weren't so nauseating. It's quite clear from reading their replies on this discussion that they have such little self-awareness that they no longer can see themselves for what they are.

USNret,

Never a truer word said. It’s very difficult for me to lay down and take all these disparaging remarks just because I’m explaining what should have been said’ a very long time ago. How dare any old/young loudmouthed mealy expats try to abuse us, in such a way, to discredit our personal views whether right or wrong? We all learn more everyday however, we should not be condemned for it. It’s not a complaint more so an observation. This expatriate journey for all and sundry does not end up in some Thai forum for us to be taught the dos and don’ts through their own personal experiences.

Too many people on here with the Victor Meldrew attitude. Nevertheless, suspect the last rant from an elderly 68 year old chap would not like him too much since he is Scottish LOL !!!. Especially when you begin to exchange your emotions for symptoms of misery and discontentment down to age. Time for us little people to fight back at these so-called controllers, now there is an obvious disgruntlement on how we are perceived by others with more posts who assume we are all mere imbeciles.

I wouldn't assume anything on your behalf. Don't worry.

"Especially when you begin to exchange your emotions for symptoms of misery and discontentment down to age." ??????? This makes absolutely no sense. It's grammatically confusing

Unfortunately, there is no set definition. There those who care and those who don’t give a toss. I for one love having a blether and pint with expats unless they start rabbiting on about how cheap life is in Asia and like that. It’s also sickening when they seem to enforce there superiority about who they know and could call in a flash if there was a sign of trouble. All this is just a facade to try to gain your undying respect for these over the top egotists.

Live and let live is my motto.

Please understand, I’m not inferring everyone is the same. I’ve met and befriended many great guys in Thailand and we have some brilliant laughs and to me – that’s what life is all about – being Happy!!!

Incidentally, I feel honoured now I have a lt more support than I did earlier (am) and now the cutting remarks have peeled off considerably and suspect I've opened a Pandora's box now the <deleted> has hit the fan.

Thank you ALL
