AyG
Is a Facebook posting a sufficiently authoritative source for this to be believed? The price is out of line with previous high priced number plates such as sor sor 9999 (6.75 million), yor yor 9999 (11 million), sor sor (different "sor") 9999 (6.75 million again). And the previous high priced ones have all been 9999 - not 1111. Has the plate actually been sold? Or is this some chancer putting a ludicrous price on something "worth" far less? Some systems use G, others use K for it. It is not aspirated. Khor Khai is much closer to an English K and is aspirated. In some systems H is used to indicate aspiration, giving pairs K, KH, T TH, P PH. In each case the first of the two is unaspirated. It's quite logical once you know what's going on. carter1882
All this about nines and ones makes me laugh! When the olympics started in Beijing it was eight minutes past eight on the eigth of the eighth month, august. The chinese always favour eight over other numbers and the 20 % or so of the thai community who have chinese heritage are not so different. So it has always been my feeling that numbers with 8888 are more valuable. Ialso one poster's reference to porn is crucial too....porn in thai spelt with the two letters พร means blessing so the number plate พร8888 has exceptional value. It exists and has come up for sale privately over the years. Should it do so again it may well be worth 25 million. People dont buy these numbers to waste their money, they may well be a great investment. The cherished number plate industry in thailand is now a massive business with both the private and public sectors realising its potential. Just take a look at the values in any thai lsnguage car for sale magazine to see what สส (thai for MP) plates are going for!

p_brownstone
I often wonder : You can go to many places all over Thailand and get a Licence Plate "Customised" - in other words the background, the Font, the overall appearance of the Plate etc., and none of them ask to see your Registration Papers. Suppose you go to one of these places and, for a fee obviously, have a Plate made up with your own idea of an "important" or "auspicious" looking Number - Thai letters followed by "9999" or whatever - and then you pinned that Plate to your simple Toyota Camry, Fortuner - whatever? Do you think any Thai policeman would dare pull you over to check your Documents? Patrick Edited May 26, 2014 by p_brownstone

That would be one sure way to get your car impounded if the constabulary were suspicious and wanted to check your plates against the blue book. Also your personal liberty would be in jeopardy!
