Am I blacklisted by Kajonkiet?

Now some might say that I am very lucky if I've been blacklisted.......

About 2 years ago I applied to teach at Kaj, since it always seems to have many teaching vacancies. I couldn't apply to the various international schools due to lack of a PGCE/B.Ed, (although I'm now due to study for a PGCEi later this year).

I have 2 post-graduate degrees, but they are not teaching degrees. My lowly TEFL qualification has worked fine for me to teach Prathom/Primary Homeroom off and on for the past 5 years or so.

The secretary at Kaj called me up, asked me a few questions, and then said that they would send me an offer of employment by email!

The offer duly arrived. The salary was quite acceptable to me but the position was not. It was to teach English Literature to Mathayom students.

Now I can teach many different subjects, but I would never think to impose my English Literature (lack of) knowledge on any student!

So I politely declined their offer, explaining that I was not qualified to teach that subject.

Fast-forward to this year and last year. Every time that Kaj announces multiple vacancies for teachers, I duly apply, but never get any response.

I even applied for their very urgent Physics teacher vacancy (one of my Master degrees is in Physics), but again never received any reply.

(To comment that over the past few years I have been successfully employed as Primary teacher, Physics & Maths teacher, Assistant Principal and interim Headmaster).

I find it rather strange. Does Kaj HR have a board of blacklisted teachers that they throw darts at when bored in the admin office???

But Simon aren’t you a wealthy hotelier owning many successful hotels in Phuket? I read many of your posts boasting these claims. Why would you be bothered with teaching in Thailand/Myanmar and worrying how you can transfer your salary back to your thai wives if you are so rich? why would you even bother?

That has to be the stupidest question of the year. He just states that he refused a position he felt he wasn't qualified to fill, do you really think that entails him needing any kind of money?

@BoxClever, I don't recall saying that I was rich. Yes I have built 4 small hotels in Phuket and have a reasonable income. Does that prohibit me from working in some other job for enjoyment and to 'give back' to others.

What about my work for years as an unpaid TPV or teaching for free in the Yangon slums? I'm surely not doing that in the hope that someone will give me a wad of cash.

Go read my LinkedIn profile and maybe you'll start to understand that money is not the goal in my life.

BTW - I am not married (anymore!) and my salary stays with me smile.png

They have probably confused you with Garry Halpin

Worrying, there is more than a passing facial resemblance...

Better Garry Halpin than Garry Glitter!

BTW, I visited the new Kaj school close to Thai Watsadu and the Heroines Monument. Very accessible for me. Had a chat with the Headmistress who asked me to email my details and to email back a completed application form.

... and that was the end of that. No reply, no calls, not even a 'sorry but you are too old/senile/fat/thin/bald' etc.

As the traffic continues to get worse in Phuket, I want to avoid commuting from the north of the island. Kaj Thalang and also the new Kaj Kok Khloy in Phang Nga are both very accessible for me. The PIADS school is not realistic, (I have no IB experience).

Somtamination would probably say that I am very lucky to hear nothing from Kaj whistling.gif

On a side note, today I drove past the Islamic school next to Boat Lagoon. They have a billboard advertisement seeking a full-time NES teacher.

Out of interest, I called the contact number and had a short chat with a nice Thai lady who explained all the requirements and the salary on offer ==> 20,000 baht.

She told me that she hadn't had any 'takers' yet....

It is a very politicized and super commercial organisation where Admin and Thai teachers rule and overrule Expat teachers to show muscle and superiority.. Can't say too much more as laws muzzle expressing opinions. My kid was there for a year, and he is super grateful I put him in a real international school, mostly devoid of politics. Thank your lucky stars you didn't get employed by them, it would not be a credit to your CV.

hahaha....the salary level clearly shows how you are valued, and what level of education and commitment can be expected.

My OP was almost 2 years ago and I can say now that I probably wouldn't even commute from the airport area to their school at Heroines' Monument - the traffic is just hopeless nowadays in Phuket :(
