I just looked at all my 6 cards, from US and UK institutions and all the cvc numbers are etched and even if I rubbed real hard and removed the black ink, the numbers would still be visible. I reckon for some reason the OP's card never had one in the first place. Check with the bank that issued it maybe? You will certainly need a new one as pretty much all online transactions and even phoned in transactions require this number.

It must have had one because I know I've used the card a few years ago to buy something from Aliexpress, so they must have asked for that code as well.

There is a 4 digit code in the bottom left corner of the card, just below the bank account number and it is impregnated in the card, but I entered the last 3 digits in the application and it said invalid card.

OP perhaps the card has expired. You said in an earlier reply "think they last 5 years...". My MC from Capital One only has a validity of 2 and a half years. If your last purchase was a couple of years ago.........

Are you sure it is a credit card? The only card I know with it on the front is Amex.

A good lesson if true to have a copy of your card details held separately perhaps........not forgetting the security implications

Next time you get a new credit/debit card, write the CVC number down in a safe place (I do it in Evernote; you could do it in a draft e-mail too, something you can always get to). Do NOT write the card number down along with it...just something that only you can understand which will remind you which card it goes with. I thought everyone did this anyway? They always wear off.

And now I will hang my head in shame

Just went to my online bank and noticed that my credit card number didn't corresponded with the number of the card I hold in hand.

I then found that I was holding my Maestro debit card.

To the mods, is it possible to change my username ?
