Airport of Thailand are offering free landing for all low cost carriers to move to Suvarnabhumi international airport .

BANGKOK: -- Airports of Thailand Plc said today that five budget airlines have agreed to participate in tests of the overall systems at Bangkok's on July 29, before its official opening about two months later, a senior official said Saturday.

Somchai Sawasdipol, director of Suvarnabhumi airport, said five low-cost airlines had agreed to join tests of the check-in system at both arrival and departure lounges. He indicated that his agency was also contacting Thai Airways International to participate in the test as well.

The government will hold a press conference on the plan to hold the test after meeting with the airport committee on June 19, he said.

Nok Air, one of five budget airlines which will participate in the test, plans to make a stopover at the new airport for its flight from Chiang Mai in the North to Hat Yai in the South, Mr. Somchai said.

Airports of Thailand also plans to conduct similar tests for international flights, including Hong Kong and Japan, in the near future so that they can be well prepared before the official opening of the new facility.

I really hope they will realize how inconvenient it will be if they divide it is divided into two airports, without an efficient system of mass transit in between...

The article Thaising found sounds promising though.

When the International Airport is moved in September will the Domestic Airport change too or will it remain in Don Maung?

Well no worries - won't open in Sept at any rate!!! :o

According to latest reports the new airport is ill equipped to handle both domestic and International. Possibly they have no choice but to split them . . . Connections would be a nightmare.

It's a rumour that the airport won't be open until next year.

Picked up K.W from heathrow last night (TG 916)and she told me that her mates who work for Immigration at Don Muang are definately moving over to Suwanna at the beginning of September for the opening around the 28th.

(nice ladies,work for the government,well paid ...cars etc...but no boyfriends.....another thread maybe):o

Anyway dosnt mean it wont open then but as said they are all on notice for the re-allocation :D

Incid lot of talk recently about Heathrow arr/depts and time taken but wifes plane touched down at 6-45 pm-unloaded ,picked up bags and cleared immigration... and I met her walking through the exit at five passed seven...20 minutes......quickest ever.

She told me that she was looking forward to seeing all the little sniffer dogs waiting for druggies, terriorists etc but apparantly no customs on duty at all.... :D

Better postpone opening if airlines are not ready

Post Today Editorial _ The government should listen to everyone concerned before going ahead with the planned opening of the new Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Sept 28. With less than 90 days to go, installation work is being speeded up, much to the concern of local and foreign organisations involved. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said the Thai government and airline operators must work closely together to ensure that the airport is fully ready for the Sept 28 opening. It is better to postpone the opening if all the ground systems and the airlines themselves are not ready for it.

Odds are lengthening, perhaps we should have a sweepstake on eventual date.
