i was talking to my wife this morning on skype, and she was saying that there was a meeting in the village to inform people that the army would be sending soldiers to every village in thailand to kind of take over from the police?

she has told me that the head man in our village has already been find 100kbaht for having to many of the big roots in his garden, they aparantly have lists of who they suspect of doing things, like the local lotto, the one you get from the local shop,(the people who live here will understand this), the army are going to these houses and searching and if found any proof they to will be fined,

I wondered about that too. But regarding the OP, I find it hard to believe that the army would have enough troops to carry this out. Every village in Thailand??

Lot of fairy tails being told lately, but this one might come true... look at Pattaya, where the Army is side by side with the police, setting up SERIOUS checkpoints on roads and taking not only tea money, but really taking drunks, doped, no licence drivers out of the game...

As I said in another thread... having an army guy at your side seems to get the police working properly... doing the job not only for show but for real... one can only have lot of hopes

Edit: Just seen about the crackdown on the taxi mafia in Phuket... sound pretty serious and right on the job, now that the Army "helps" the police...

The Army visited a village 5km from mine and arrested some people last week. We have been told to expect a surprise visit in our village soon. Apparently they are only interested in and looking for guns and bombs.

Nah, not to every village. Only to the ones in the suspected Red areas.
