I tried explaining this to my daughter when she came for a visit and complained about having to buy a drink to stay in the club, there is no entrance charge to get into the bars and clubs in walking street, where as in the Gold Coast Australia it can cost you $30 just to walk into the club and then pay $12 to $15 for a watered down drink and hope it hasn't been spiked by the barman, she has been charged $8 for a small bottle of water in some clubs after being refused tap water

I was walking past Lucifers that night and saw a comotion outside with a bunch of police standing around. I stopped for a minute or so to see what was happening, but then moved on. About 15 minutes later when I was further down WS (not far from the main police setup), I saw them come by with these guys. The bald guy was pretty beaten up and could barely walk. I wasn't sure if it was because he was drunk or the result of the beating/head injury. Since I wasn't there to see the altercation, I can't say what happened or who was in the wrong.

However, over the past six months I've seen several incidents of pretty extreme violence in which Thais (plural!) were attacking helpless/hapless foreigners, often only meters from the WS security stations. Most of these incidents involved bar security. In general, my feeling is that the Thais are allowed to act with impunity (and thus do so! ). Also there is almost no rule of law here.

This, along with several other factors, has left me with rather negative feelings towards Thailand and Thais. Although I still live here (3 years, 20 in Asia), I find myself bashing this place more and more. It's rather sad considering how highly I used to think about the LOS.

Too many skinny, old farangs out here and too many cowardly Thai 'men' also

We need more Russians and maybe Arabs and Chinese. Those guys take no crap

Someone needs to show the Thais they ain't so tough

all they really need is a police force that will intervene and arrest people and a justice system that punishes them. but feel free to go to lucifers sometime and test out your theory

They do need those things.

They also need to learn how to be real men. Step outside with a man and speak your peace and do what you have to do.

Why do you think Thailand is a nation of ladyboys?

It's because there are so few male role models around. Very feminine culture. Country run by women.

Not sure about lucifers but the place I hail from is far far worse than anything I've seen in the hardest parts of Thailand. Thais ain't too tough mate

What a nonsense post.

1) Most of the ladyboys would probably kick your arse one on one

2) I would also like to see you pick a fight with most Thai men and see who walks away.

3) A nation of ladyboys? Yes there are many but please WAKE UP.

4) If you think that Thailand is a "feminine culture" then you are calling Buddhism a feminine belief and are probably spending to much time in Boyz Town.

5) "Country run by woman"? You haven't been following the news? It is run by the Military in which there are NO woman.

The article provides some facts but there is an awful lot that might be unreported.

Two men walk into bar.

One orders a drink and other refuses.

He is escorted outside.

Not reported:

Is he rude to bouncers as he is being escorted out?

What was the reason for the escalation?

Most businesses provide a person the opportunity to buy a drink before just booting them.

Also, if a patron is reasonable as he is requested to leave and then decides to have a drink after all, typically just explaining to the door staff you changed your mind and producing cash is sufficient for being allowed back in.

UNLESS the patron was rude on the way out.

The article sounds like it provides the Israeli side of the story and I wonder how the Thai side might differ.

The Israeli in the picture sure took a stomping.

It is perfectly reasonable for any bar to refuse non paying "customers", however security is not there to teach anyone a lesson, they are there to prevent trouble. Hence if a guy tries to get back in, you simply block his way and tell him to go home. If he verbally abuses you, you call a few other guards as a show of force, and then ignore him.

If the wannabe customer gets physical you restrain him on the ground and call the police.

Unless a guy is armed, I fail to see why 4-5 guards need to beat up anyone, unless of course they enjoy beating up people, which I suspect is often the case here.

You make it sound so easy.

"You just restrain him on the ground".

So easy.

Now lets say for a minute there are those 4-5 guards and they go to restrain him peacefully on the ground as you describe and then his brother jumps in and starts getting physical. Then those 4-5 bouncers have what is called a "struggle" and often in a struggle it takes a bit of strong-arming to get the upper hand. At that point its entirely dependent on how much the patrons continue to resist.

Your post doesn't allow for that possibility so I am guessing you never worked the door in a bar before nor were you ever in Law Enforcement.

Actually you are the one who makes it sound easy by quoting me, and then including your own word (just) in the quote to make it sound easy :-D

Point #5 is incorrect, women are members of the Thai Armed Forces, some of whom have been deployed to the deep South and are armed.

Point #4: Thailand has a greater percentage of women in executive roles than many Western countries, also females often control the family budget

Just another night in Walking St really.

These sort of incidents happen quite regularly.

Thais are generally quite tolerant especially some of the rubbish that I have seen them put up with in nightlife areas.

However when they do lose it they lose it big time and of course the pack mentality kicks in and the beatings can be very brutal.

, these Israeli guys expected to be allowed in a Pub and only one buy a drink.

Bad as 6 Indians I saw sharing 3 beers in a gogo bar by just having 3 inside at anytime and playing tag for an hour.

In Sydney if you try and come back into a venue after Security has evicted you you will cop a beating as well, and if you resist their mates will all join in.

agree also why do people just assume these guys were innocents ...previous nights behaviour was similar ...these two seem to think they r owed something ...the one with the shirt bumped and spilt food over a young thai girl in the fa rest and just looked at her with a screw u look ...absolute pig ...... also u have to remember that people r trying to run a business ..in the us they call it standby ..all this guy had to do was say I'm going to order in a few mins ...but he was THE RUDE ONE ..last week whilst bar hopping i was in a bar ..fairly busy and there was a group ..i won't name the ethnicity of five guys talking loudly and they had ....i kid u not one beer and one coke between them the bottled water was brought in from outside ..these two guys were belted not because of there nationality but because there r soooppper a....wipes cheers

I am looking forward to the follow up.

Will Lucifer really be closed for a relevant time?

To me this would be a sign to the "new times".

Both Chonburi governor as well as Pattaya police chief have been exchanged by the junta.

I have been to the place only a few times on my visits.

Never had any problem.

Sure I have to order a drink at such a place.

I think it takes a reasonable amount of ignorance and stupidity to provoke the doorman for such reaction.

I have this certain feelling "they deserved it".

Scum meeting scum.

Scum meeting scum.

its not a matter of if they deserved it, its a public place and a lot of its income comes from tour groups these days. they arent there to watch brawls in the street and theres other places they can go if they get the perception that its not a safe place to visit

Very surprised the 2 Israeli's took a beating.

Israeli's will normally give a lot more than they get.

they did not have their M16s this time so no superior advantage. Dont know why they don't accept its a free to enter club that requires you buy a drink .Being asked to leave then going back in is asking for trouble not just in Thailand.

They may not all be tough, but I have seen a 5'6'' skinny little Thai guy beat the crap out of a 6'6'' German steroid freak. That little guy was a damn site tougher than me. I certainly wouldn't want 6 of them pounding on me.
You must be a p3ssy. No offense

Six months monitoring all the "violence" between Thais (plural ... OMG) on Walking Street picking on helpless/hapless foreigners.

Seriously? You've been in Asia 20 years and Thailand 3 years and you spend 6 months patrolling Walking Street ... with all these hapless foreigners ... on the spot when violence breaks out ... is this like a hobby or a personal mission or a crime fighting fetish or ?? I think the Thai Visa Bar Stool Crime Scene Investigators (BS-CSI) might have found their chief.
