Hi,

I currently hold a non-O visa that was extended based on employment. It is valid until Jan 2015. I want to resign from work, but then it will no longer be valid. Is there a way that I can do an extension based on marriage even though it is still stamped as valid in my passport? In other words, it's not due for renewal, but if I can use marriage to extend then I wouldn't be here illegally anymore because im not working. Or can I change what the current extension is based on? so that it will be based on marriage and not employment.

thanks

With a letter from the company stating the date you job ends you would go to immigration on or shortly before that date and they would cancel your existing extension and then you would apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage.

You will need to meet the financial requirements of 400k baht in a Thai bank for sixty days or an income of 40k baht.

Would an income affidavit from the US Embassy suffice for the extension? what if I can't get a letter from my previous employer stating a favorable termination date? What if the termination date was rectroactive....ughhh-humm......lol

Worst case can I leave and come back on new non o visa? I'm really trying to avoid leaving the country.

They have to give you the letter and it cannot be retroactive according to the law.

You also have to cancel your work permit. You can do this yourself and then take the receipt for it to immigration.

Even you resignation letter might work.

You can use an income affidavit from the embassy to prove your income.
