The warning came after continuous heavy rains which might cause flash floods originating in nearby mountains.

Villagers urged to reduce mosquito breeding sites to avoid dengue

LAMPANG, 15 March 2014 (NNT)-Villagers in Mae Moh Tambon, Lampang, northern Thailand have united to destroy mosquito breeding sites.

Mr. Chucheep Bunnag,Mayor of the Subdistrict Municipality led officials from Mae Moh Municipality and health care agents in Mae Moh to visit 200 villagers and establish an understanding amongst the people of the danger of Dengue.

The rising number of Mae Moh dengue patients, was considered the highest in Lampang province in 2013. This is a sign that this year’s dengue fever situation might also be severe, with an expected 115 of patients.

During the disease’s danger period in the rainy season from June to August, authorities ask villagers in households, schools, businesses, and other places where people gather to look for and destroy mosquito breeding sites. This is important for the reduction of the mosquito population, which in turn can stem the spread of vector-borne diseases.

NBTC to consider to allow Blue Sky and ASTV back on air

bas-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission is due tomorrow to review the revised programmes of both the Blue Sky and ASTV satellite TV stations to determine whether they should be recommended to go on air again.

The anti-government Blue Sky and ASTV are among 14 TV stations closed down by the National Council for Peace and Order since May 22 when a coup was staged to overthrow the Yingluck government.

Ms Supinya Klangnarong, a member of the broadcasting board, said today that if the board was satisfied with the revised programmes which must be free from political programmes deemed defying the coup makers or the coup, the two TV stations would be allowed to go on air again provided that the board’s approval is rubber-stamped by the NCPO.

Earlier on June 14, the pro-government Voice TV was allowed to be back on air. Most of the 4,000 community radio stations which were closed down were also allowed to rebroadcast.

Blue Sky station director Thakerg Somsap said that the programmes had been completely overhauled and devoid of any political programmes. He added that most of the emcees had been replaced and even the background screens and titles were changed.

ASTV station director Prampont Pakvapee, meanwhile, said that the station would give emphasis on economic issues and there would be no programmes which are deemed critical or opposing to the junta.

Telenor Group apologises for saying dtac ordered to block Facebook

BANGKOK: -- Telenor Group has issued an apology to the junta and Thai telecom regulator for saying its dtac mobile phone operator was ordered to block Facebook usage on May 28.

"Earlier this week, Telenor Group released information to both international and Thai media in relation to an incident that occurred on the 28th May.
