Called 3BB and confirmed their website statement saying they don't offer a temp suspension of service for holidays, although it seems they used to.

Plan to be gone just over 2 months. If we cancel the account before leaving, do the techs come out and physically pull the 3BB cable off the street pole outside the house? I would want to re-open new service on return and hopefully not have to get the area techs out to re-install a new wire.

Probably won't pull the cable, maybe even leave the modem, I dunno. But then there will likely be a reconnect charge that may not be much more than your monthly fee x 2. So why not just leave it up and running.

Use my own router. The account we have now is in the name of a nephew who used to live here and we've just been using/paying the service.

We would return and open a new account in our name and if the line is still in place, just pay the 1st month service, simple as. Maybe it's not that easy.

It's more the idea of paying a service not being used more than the 1,200 Baht itself. Was hoping somebody had done this, or moved into a place that already had a 3BB line installed, and what they did/paid to start a new service in their name.

A router isn't a modem. A modem router, now, includes both.

"They also serve who only stand and wait."

Hope somebody has. If not, just go by a 3BB office and ask. In fact, you can call the tech support line and ask. They'll call you back w/ a Thai English speaker. Tel: 1530 Customer service: [email protected]

Yeah, ok, thanks.

3BB one-year contracts: pay monthly or pay 6 months up front for a ~ 10% discount (last year, anyway).

Accounts/hardware are totally removable, my exGF transferred 'her account' in the first instance from house to rental apartment,

and just this week transferred again to her flyblown open-air roadside restaurant (well, the food is fine).

Each transfer required 1-2 days notice to 3BB office, and approx. cost 200B for new line and installation.

If you go for 2 month holiday you pay for two months of unlimited data you won't be around to use:

two years ago, one-year contracts could only be terminated by paying a three-month 'penalty'. AA

Roger that. I also didn't want to get into a 1 year contract as we may move a few months after returning from holiday.

Think I'm good to shut off the service, open new account on return and transfer later should we move.

Thanks for the response and info.
