I was reading this story and was wondering if anyone knows of any Thai veterinarians doing doggy cataract surgery?

My 7 y-o shih tsu had a run in with a cat several years ago and eventually lost one eye. Sadly, over the past year, the remaining eye has developed cataracts and he has a hard time getting around the yard, even in broad daylight. He's a lovely old bugger but it's sad to see him unable to run around with the younger ones.

Don't think so, did ask the vet and at the Animal Hospital couple of years ago, my oldest is 10 [oldest of 8] he still runs around both in the house and outside, sometimes I forget and will put something down, or move something and he runs into it.. he has not been upstairs for about 3+ years.

Why don't you check at Kasetsart-they have a veterinary medicine dept...Chula might also have one, I know they have a pet clinic. Your cat is fortunate to have you as an owner.

I don't know where you live but about ten years ago my dog had tumours in both eyes and I took him to Chiang Mai (University) Animal Hospital, they were really professional. So I would suggest finding the nearest university animal as they have the best vets.

In the south I would suggest Surusak Animal Hospital in Hat Yai. The most up to date equipment and second to none care from Dr Surasak as he oversees all the vets working for him.

Thanks for these suggestions. I am in Pattaya where there are loads of vets and pet hospitals so I will ask around them.

Possibly not at a reasonable price or at all in Pattaya, but try Chula small animal hospital on Henry Durant Drive in Bangkok or Kataseart as some one else suggested.

I know the Mahidol Vet Hospital in Salaya does, and would be surprised in Kasetsart also doesn't.

However post-traumatic cataracts are sometimes not safe to remove (the lens is adhering other parts of the eye due to scarring). But no harm in asking.

I took a neighbor's cat with a post-infective cataract to Mahidol a few months back, met with opthalmologist who does remove cataracts but could not remove that one due to the adhesions.

Note that in all these hospitals the opthalmologist may nto be there everyday, just certain hours so call ahead.

like with foofoo, losing one eye means the other eye is in double jepeardy... i also feel his one eye is slowling going although with many animals the blindness is so slow that its almost unnoticable... me and the dog, with cataracts...
