PDRC spokesman enters monkhood

BANGKOK: -- Akanat Promphan, former spokesman of the People's Democratic Reform Council (PDRC), entered monkhood Saturday in what he said was to make merits for those who died during the six-month old protest against the previous government.

The Buddhist robing ceremony was held at the Wat Cholapratan Rangsarit temple in Nonthaburi province.

The ceremony was attended by PDRC leader SuthepThaugsuban, Akanat’s mother Srisakul Promphan, Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, Bangkok governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra
and a large number of his supporters.

Akanat was later named “Brahmavangso” in Sanskrit language.

He will stay at the temple for two days before proceeding to Wat Pa Ampawan temple in Ban Bung district of Chonburi province for a 13-day retreat before leaving the monkhood.

Wow, 13 days to make merit, then go back to Suthep's "business". Hypocrite.bah.gif That guy in blue shirt with glasses should join the monkhood for like 20 years.

A publicity stand.

Why the corrupted regime and thaksin were not mentioned?

The ones who actually did the killing don't seem to have any regrets.

Until they are caught that is, like the ones who gunned down the children.

Interesting they have a fleet of journalists there to record this moment......

Is that even him? He looked a good looking young lad with hair on, now he looks about 50, or not even like him at all.

Yingluck, like so many Thais, made merit on her birthday.

No. It's not him. The journalists and everyone that reads the news have been fooled. Or paid off. Which ever conspiracy theory suits.

Why should they be mentioned? Unless they were involved in the killing??

Excuse me while I vomit in my mouth

No one has looked as smug as this bloke in the last six months

That was being left to you.

This is big news - Top Thai headline

Very far from it, it's buried with many other news items, unless you think that appearing unceremoniously on a list of many other reports on a not particularly significant forum makes it a "Top Thai headline"

Is it true it is a common escape as the cops arrent peole doing the monkhood thingo ??

No.

Its a punchable face. If you are a gambling man get down to the bookmakers and get a price on Akanat being in Septembers interim government. Whatever price you get snatch the bookies hand off. Check out Porntips reward for nightly appearances at Sutheps garden parties.

I would look smug if I knew what the outcome was. Create a killing field and the army steps in. No or little response from the reds and the army coup whatever.

K. Akanat is not a politician, nor does he seem to have the personality so important to be a politician (although he wouldn't be the first politician with what some may see as a "punchable face")rolleyes.gif

Personally I would not be surprised to see k. Akanat being invited as member of the Reform Committee as he often talked about the need for reforms and I think was even involved in trying to set up a framework to make asking people's opinion and ideas, and incorporate them more easy.

Rubl, akanat was democrat mp. He was busted in march for claiming to have 6 degrees from oxford - here goes his transparency, reform and anticorruption

Still, good to see he hasn't put on much weight, eh.

He didn't create any such thing.

May, 2011

"Akanat Promphan, son of Srisakul, wife of party secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban, said he has a fresh way of thinking as a member of the new generation. "These days, we have to think in more constructive ways, not focus on conflict," he said."

February, 2014

"Akanat Promphan, former Democrat Party MP for Bangkok:

Assets after debt deduction: Bt101 million. This includes bank deposits of Bt2.4 million and Bt10 million in investments.

He also owns a Patek Philippe wristwatch worth Bt1.8 million and a Bt4.4-million car."

Cannot find the 'busted in March' though. Any pointer?

ADD: belated pointer, but somehow only found on NewMandela

"It would seem to be another example of the deep status insecurity that drives the Yellow side in Thai politics. At a time when the old social order that has served them so well is under challenge, members of the Yellow camp are desperate to find ways to assert their superiority and thus to justify their right to lord it over their presumed social inferiors. The ironic result of such blatant exaggeration of credentials and achievements is to make their claims to superiority look quite hollow, while at the same time emphasizing the many degrees of separation that lie between them and the ordinary people of Thailand whom they should be seeking to represent."
