Tourism significantly recovers after curfew lifted

The curfew was lifted less than a week go. How can tourism 'significantly recovered' in less than 7 days?

We really can't expect anything other than this oh so positive nonsense.

As a poster said in a thread recently " were tourists waiting at international airports for the curfew to be lifted ? "

It's bad enough they come out with this rubbish but then insult everyone's intelligence by expecting it to be believed.

I asked if tourists were camping out at airports waiting, lol. I even wonder of Thai's can afford to travel around Thailand as they are supposed to be in debt. TAT talking a load of tat! IMO

Two lady tour guides I know that deal with Australians and French tourists have said that they and their colleagues have little or no work currently and very little for the upcoming main school holiday months.

Perhaps they she be waiting at the airports for the droves?

It's a bit of a no brainer, there has been a military coup in the eyes of potential travelers it simply makes it a no go irrespective of how safe it may be perceived by residents, and the "Thailand is different to other countries" - just does not hold water.

Yep just saw the other article headlines coup restores confidence in the markets however the tourism industry is reeling under the loss of tourists to Thailand.

The PR machine is getting its stories wrong and showing people they are churning out popular headlines just to garner favour with the intl community !

In normal times, such spins would be justified as PR.

During a military coup with curbs on the media, I'm afraid that it's just plain warped propaganda.

Strictly speaking you should have written

"During a military coup with curbs on the media it's justified as "Thai feel good" news, I'm afraid that it's just plain warped propaganda."

Mind you, whether PR or propaganda, the message seems to be the same

Well, it's back in effect in Udonthani and while many of the do-gooder/goodie two shoes on this forum (please go back to whatever hole you crawled out of) may be happy, it is hurting business in Udon. Farang catering bars (not all owned by farangs) forced to close at midnight, I hear Thai clubs can stay open until 0200. UD Town appeared to be closing when I passed at 2330 last night but the Thai restaurant/bars across the street still rocking and rolling as was another Thai club I passed on the ring road. Many of the little Thai sidewalk cafe/food vendors on the highway out that usually are open all hours of the night with customers often blocking up to 2 lanes of the highway were closed. I hadn't even heard of the curfew and neither had my wife. I didn't see any roadblocks, police, military on the road but bar owners tell me they are checking at midnight. Police definitely in town, I saw them there.

The curfew was lifted on the 13th of June. What you may have seen could be just an enforcement of the normal closing times as by law.

The department expects....come on guys and girls what the hell are you doing at your desks? Phitsanulok with usualy many farang tourists hasn't seen a tourist yet. And this from a reliable source.

Stop and make up stories. Farangs are not stupid !!!!!

Anyone in Phuket will tell you that his has been the worst low season for a long time. It also started earlier than usual. From large hotels to guesthouses and hostels, occupancy rates are down. I can even get served straight away in the local 7-Eleven.

I would guess from reading this thread, it's the same across Thailand. We know about Bangkok of course.

So how and why do TAT continually come up with these figures?

After reading the other thread with tourism reeling one can see the damage that the UDD led attacks have done to negatively impact on tourist confidence. It is good to see things are improving however and though still reeling numbers are on an upward trend which is typical after periods of instability. If one suggested they went down after 6 months of terrorist attacks ceasing then I would question the source.

The new richer Chinese middle class were an obvious litmus test to the lifting of the curfew due to their proximity to Thailand and their impulse shopping holidays. Last year alone Chinese tourism increased 107% so when one scoffed at suggested the people are waiting at the airports for the curfew to be lifted he was not far off the money. The Chinese were waiting and as has been proven they are back in droves. One can be assured, given time, the remaining countries that plan further ahead in their holiday planning will follow suit. Why not? All the signs are positive. It is pertinent to add these are signs the DRT cannot control.

Unless of course the baht stabilizing, investment increasing and the stock market rallying is all in our imagination just like the inflation was in our imagination brought on by the hot weather. Heay yingluck?

Rest assured we will not hear silly excuses that hold the people in contempt anymore and for that alone I thank the DRT.

They cancelled the zero cost tours. This is the single largest factor reducing the Chinese numbers. Then throw in a coup and the Chinese general distrust of having soldiers on the streets, and I am frankly amazed they have this many at all.

No, the curfew was put back into effect last week for Udon. Bars do not close at midnight (0200) nor do other venues. Mr. Tong's a late night venue Thai owned and operated is not even opening. There was some type of disturbance downtown, I've heard shooting, shooting w/police involved, one person shot, also disturbance at Technical College but nothing positively pinpointing the reason.
