My Russian friends are here on Koh Samui for their annual holiday. The husband has to return to work in Moscow but the wife would like to stay a further 30 days, their passports are just stamped as entry stamps and leave by date. What is best idea for wife, border bounce, immigration or what. I've lived here 8 years on multiple O but no idea of tourist procedures.

The only choice is is to leave and get a new 30 day entry or apply for a tourist visa at a nearby embassy or consulate that would give a 60 day entry.

The only extension possible is 7 days at immigration.

Russia is not a G7 country so she will only get 15 days by land. She must reenter by air to get 30 days.

She will get 30 days by air or land because of a bilateral agreement between Russia and Thailand that does not fall under the visa exempt entry rules.

Be aware that if she has many visa exempt entries she can be denied entry at the border to Malaysia.

They are cracking down on Russians and Koreans working illegally.

She then have to travel to Penang to get a proper visa.

Citizens of Russia are permitted to stay up to 30 days under the Bilateral Agreement with Thailand if entering via international airport or through a land border checkpoint from a neighboring country, e.g., Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

Tell her to be sure to have her final departure tickets and possibly 20,000bht 'show' money if she plans to go to a Malaysian border crossing.

My friend just came back and he said a Russian and German were being hassled because they didn't have these things with their tourist visa.
