Thai fishery producers want to hit back after US human trafficking downgrade

Featured Replies

This is a big PR opportunity for the junta. Acknowledge that under the previously corrupt but democratically elected administration this practice was allowed but that the new administration will ensure it is stopped immediately.

And thanks awfully for bringing it to our attention. thumbsup.gif

The world already knows that the Junta are involved in human trafficking and making money off the human flesh. The world knows that the Junta are suing people for making this public.

Hardly a PR opportunity for them more like their dirty laundry.

As a non-Thai, I do not think of the Junta and the members of the Navy as the same thing.

"We [Thai seafood manufacturers] need to convey correct information to the public after the British newspaper 'The Guardian' and the US accused Thai food and related industries of employing illegal workers," he said."

I think you mean exposed rather than accused.

How are you going to explain the murders committed on these boats? Yes,MURDER!

How many workers had seen one of theirs being murdered? Because throwing someone overboard is also murder.

Clean up and take action. Stop crying like a kid that's not allowed to bully anymore.

You have been warned for many years and did not do enough. You did not take it serious. Now your industry has to action, and fast. Otherwise you will feel it.

It is not that difficult. It's a question of will.

Answer is Easy!! To enable your Catch to be sold... You must be a "Certified" Member of Thailands Fishing Industry. Where your required to show Documentation relating to the Status of your Vessels Crew. (It must be on file that your crew is legal and each and everyone has a Current Working Permit!!

Those Boats and Crews that are not Members would be Barred from Selling their Catch to Any of the Registered Thai Seafood Manufacturers. Unless they have followed the steps to file the status and proof of Current Working Permits being issued to every member of their Crew.

Any of these Vessels would be required to produce proof if Boarded at anytime to check Status. If in non-compliance existing Catch or what ever is in the Holds of the offending Ships be scuttled ASAP! on the spot and Nets be conficated.

Would completely voice Directives and Deem message would be heard clear across S.E. Asia. In every industry!!

What is happening is there are fleets of illegal and unregistered fishing boats that lack the documents to sell their catch at port. They float around the Sea for years without ever tying up to a pier. Food, fuel and supplies are transferred offshore by other boats and tenders. These "pirate" fishing vessels catch "un-permitted" fish and then transfer the catch to fishing vessels that have "permits" and it is these "permitted" vessels which then bring the catch to the processors under the protection of their "permits".

It is the "Pirate" fishing vessels which hold the slave labor successfully and without publicity because they seldom ever come ashore.

As neversure has mentioned, there are likely additional methods to cheat the system--this is just one I have read about personally.

The Navy is part of the military junta, no disputing that. High ranking naval officers are sitting right up there rubbing shoulders with the General.

Junta member and ministries he is in charge of. Social development may be a bit relevant to slavery. Hope he's against it!
