Popular Post webfact Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 NCPO sets D-Day for implementation of the new van service regulation on July 1st BANGKOK, 26 June 2014 (NNT) - The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will implement new regulations on van service in the capital on July 1st.Van operators providing passenger service in the vicinity of the Victory Monument are required by the date to refrain from parking for extended time at the unloading zone, and instead, to just pick up passengers and leave. All vans must also share only one ticket stall at a specified point, settle a permanent location of van station, and to register their vehicles with the authorities before resuming their service. The new regulations, which will be implemented on July 1st, are aimed at reorganising passenger van services which are plying 59 routes around the area, eliminating bribery, while reducing traffic congestion during rush hours.-- NNT 2014-06-26 6

Popular Post EyesWideOpen Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 Forget the parking issue. They are killing people like flies due to speeding and lunatic driving, that is what the NCPO needs to control somehow. And also make it a mandatory 10 year sentence for fleeing the scene of an accident..... 19

jcisco Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 A lot of these vans are not the province bound type but the suburban routes of bkk. I haven't ever been in one that was in any danger of driving lunatic like. I think a lot of TVF people do not realise this and only have experience with them on the highways or border running. But yes they are a menance on highways with high speed tailgaiting being a frightful experience in the front passenger seat. 2
Popular Post ramrod711 Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 The speeding issue could be easily handled at low cost. Install transponders in the vans have a receiver at the monument and at 100 km intervals. Alternatively, make it mandatory for vans to have gps monitored by transportation officials. I was a professional driver for 27 years, US and Canada, pull into a weigh station they could tell me exactly how long it had been since I stopped at the last one. I refuse to ride in the vans anymore, death traps on wheels. 4
Popular Post technologybytes Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 It looks like Thailand is being cleaned up at last. Only thing is that the wild west nature of Thailand is what attracted me in the first place. Too much regulation and it won't be Thailand any more. 8

Popular Post Jim walker Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 26, 2014 A tacograph in all commercial vehicles recoding all movement speed and time length of the movement and the vehicle will only move if the tacograph is activated with an authorised digital card with all the drivers’ qualifications and details stored on it. Simple Thailand just needs to move into the 21st century rather than the ox and cart league. 5
wvavin Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Lets see what is going to happen on the 1st of July.
millwall_fan Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Ahem...er anti coup as I am, er as a resident of Victory Monument, I must admit - grudgingly - that regulating the minibuses in this area would be a good idea. 1

Too much regulation and it won't be Thailand any more. Just visually and temporary. It is still mentally is pretty much chaotic. 1

I was close ... and you will notice that the poster quotes her/himself in her/his profile right after quoting the great G.B. Shaw. Wasn't it Winston Churchill who referred to a person he'd met as 'A modest little person, with much to be modest about' ? hahaha I think we have a good specimen here 1
Teddy3943 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 On what website i can praise the present authorities for their action management. Let's all give big thumbs up. 1
soidog52 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Used to be the HIACE vans: High Impact Asian Crash Equipment! 2
kartman Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 So once they are registered there will be lots of vans circling the Monument stop pick up,circle stop pick up,circle stop pick up, circle stop pick up lots of dizzy passengers . 1

I still give the General a B-, but judging from what passes as an education standard here that puts him at the top of his class. The van fiasco is dangerous, annoying and has needed fixing for a very long time. Vans +1, Pension -1 --- same same.
PaulHamon Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 how about speed limiting the van to 90km/h for safety. 1
IAMSOBAD Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Maybe check for drivers not licensed and for seat belts and insurance and yabba addiction. These drivers lose face with other moron drivers and start road rage racing. Just a thought
Nuddy Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 The Military through the Good General are trying to sort out the traffic flows and to cut out the corruption. The vans seem to think when driving on the Kings roads that they are a law unto themselves. Getting them to behave themselves is a difficult task but it appears that the Good General is working on this aspect. Anyone who can get the traffic flowing in Bangkok has my vote of appreciation. Regards
ratcatcher Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 this is so entertaining.... Would you be prepared to share your little secret with the rest of us?
badmedicine Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 I like these coup people. One by one, they're sorting problems out that have needed to be sorted out for decades, but ignored both by Thaksin and the Democrats. I'd rather have benign dictators than evil parliamentarians. Long may their good intentions last. 1

moe666 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Too many here want a nanny state, more rules, more regulation, do this, do not do that, go back to where you came from all these rules and regulation you are dieing for is what you ran away from. When you get a little more are sure to follow.
