Popular Post webfact Posted June 26, 2014 Popular Post Share Posted June 26, 2014 Yossawadee resort home seizedLOEI: -- A combined force of soldiers, police, forestry and local government officials yesterday raided the 700-rai resort inside Phu Rue forest reserve in Loei province in the bid to seize it on charge of encroachment and illegal occupation of state property.The Yossawadee forest resort was owned by Thanphuying Yossawadee Buranasamrit Ampornpaisan who passed away in 2012 and the ownership was later transferred to her son.The raid at the resort was in compliance to the policy of the National Council for Peace and Order to return forests to the people.The Yossawadee resort has 24 houses and multi purpose buildings worth about 100 million baht built in the forest reserve.Leading the over 100-strong forcevwas the commander of the Loei Peace Keeping Force Maj Gen Woratat Supatananun, and Loei governor Viroj Jivarangsan.Caretaker of the resort Choke Sangnak, 65, was detained for questioning. Authorities informed him of the illegal occupation of the forest reserve and ordered that all buildings in the area must be demolished within 30 days.Failure to demolish, state authorities will demolish all of them after the 40-day deadline expires.The resort owner earlier defended legal ownership of the land with seven land ownership documents or Nor Sor 3 as proof and also filed case to the Administrative Court.However the documents were later proved to be illegitimately issued and the Land Department had already scrapped all the documents and ordered occupants to leave the forest reserve.When the case was brought to the Supreme Court, the court upheld earlier ruling and ordered the Forestry Department to strictly enforce the law.Authorities said they intended to set precedent in the case that intrusion and buying land in forest reserves will face legal action and all structures built will be demolished.(photo : manager.co.th)Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/yossawadee-resort-home-seized/ -- Thai PBS 2014-06-26 10 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Lets also hope that they go after all persons who have encroached instead of just selecting relatively unconnected persons. While I do applaud the NCPOs strong-willed drive to weed out crooks and influential bigwigs who for decades have shamelessly plundered Thailand's resources without legal implications or punishment, the above sentence nevertheless gives me food for thought: Does it mean that citizens soon will be able to collect wild mushrooms in national forests without having to fear to be jailed for 15 years for their "crime"? Most of the real hill tribe people don't destroy the forests and jungles, they live in harmony with them. They respect their surrounds, taking from nature only what they need, not what they feel greed for. They plant, and rotate crops that nourish the soil, not sap it of it's resources. Most of the real hill tribe people have been around before BKK was even a city, but you don't see them overpopulating the jungle, or tearing it down to build houses, condos and factories. To my way of thinking, these people have more of a right to where they live than the average "Thai" does. Not the magic ones... There hasn't been another word about the people jailed for picking wild mushrooms (mushrooms that are neither rare, endangered, or even extremely valuable). I would hate to find out later that the discoloured were being treated differently to each other. We need much more yet to prove we are true. I am definitely applauding their recent efforts to take action of various illegal actions of mainly influential people but as long as they do not do the same within the army I start to seriously doubt the genuity of this whole thing. What about resorts owned by senior or retired army people, what about corruption in the army and about the army being involved and sometimes running crime gangs? Do you guys think all these army professionals got rich in winning the lottery? There is not one single action made by them during the last few weeks. This stinks to heaven! A big show in order to get recognized by the population and chasing away their competitors.
