Garmin Zumo 500/550

Featured Replies

My dad got a new GPS for his Goldwing, so he gave me his old one, a Garmin Zumo 500/550 with all the accessories. Only problem, it doesn't have the Thai map on it.

I tried replacing the old files with those from my other Garmin (Nuvi 2465). It imported my old saved locations, but the map is not visible.

Can anyone tell me how to install the Thailand map the cheapest way possible?

thank you

The cheapest way (which is free) is via OpenstreetMaps (Link: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/)

however the coverage in Cities is quite oke but coverage in Rural Areas is really poor.

If you want the best Map with excellent coverage (even in Rural Areas) (but not free with a whopping 4xxx THB Per map price tag) you have to contact

Some Questions

Did you make a backup of the GPS before copying ? Where there .unl files on the GPS ?

how did you try to copy the maps ? Which Locations, which names of files.

Does the Zumo 550 have a SD Card slot ? If so you could try copy the map to an SD Card under the map Garmin (make it if it doesn't exists)

It did have a Europe map on it. I just deleted those as I have the original CD anyways. I then used the files I had on my other Garmin, copied them all and pasted them in the Zumo via USB cable.

The Zumo has a SD card also.

The files on the Nuvi are the usual folders (Garmin, GPX, Help, keyboards, pictures etc) plus these 2 files D242661.ver and H009361.ver. Last one is nuvi_drive.

Oke try the trick by copying the map to the SD Card and see what happens then.

You could also do that with the Free Openstreet Maps.

There are of course other ways, but not allowed to mention them, but you can easily find them via Google.

I tried that, but no luck.

I'm following some other method now I found on google wink.png , like you said. Let's hope thumbsup.gif
