Media union to set the record straight on big exodus of Cambodians
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Union Media of Asean, an association of Thai and Cambodian journalists based in Sa Kaew, has agreed to set the record straight about the policy of Thailand's ruling junta towards migrant workers, particularly those from Cambodia.

Reporters affiliated with UMA would pass on the truth on this issue to migrant workers from Cambodia, according to Prasit Sangrungrueng, the association's secretary-general.

He praised the Thai authorities for doing very good work in helping Cambodian migrants return home.

UMA held a press event on Friday at a military camp in Sa Kaew for the Thai and Cambodian media. The event was in response to the recent exodus of more than 100,000 Cambodian workers from Thailand following a rumour that the military rulers were cruelly cracking down on foreign labour.

Sa Kaew Governor Phakarathorn Tianchai told the journalists that it was not a policy of the junta to crack down on Cambodian migrant workers, The Cambodia Daily reported.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen also accused Thailand of abusing the rights of Cambodian workers in what he called the largest-ever repatriation effort, the Phnom Penh Post reported

More than a little hypocritical.

That's what I thought.

Hun Sen is hardly one to be criticizing the Junta for human rights abuses against Cambodians.

well that cleared that up - right ?

And there's another report this afternoon, that hun sen denies he made any criticism and in fact supports and wants to cooperate in the efforts developed / implemented by the junta on this subject.

Typical Thai press don't even know what day of the week it is.
