Coming through next week from Phuket, where i reside.

Anyone know about going to the regional immigration office? Are there two different offices, one regional and one local?

Anyone ever go to regional for B visa extensions?

I was always under the idea that extensions can only be proceeded in the area office of your registered address. But that might only apply to annual (as in one year)extensions.

The regional office (Immigration Region 6) is out by the airport at Thung Tam Sao Yai - they don't handle day-to-day processes (not to be confused with the airport checkpoint which comes under another Division). You probably need to go to the local office on Phetkasem Road, but I reckon they would refer you back to the Phuket local office.

^ thanks for that. I can find the airport , too I think

LiK , I was told all one year extensions go through the regional office in Hat Yai.

I'm really just going there to complain about Phuket not granting the extension for what I suspect are spurious reasons as just explained on the Phuket airport schemes thread. I wan tto show them my papers

I i have to go to Penang anyway to get a new B, so might as well stop there and try...

Now I need a hotel...

I would be interested to hear how you get on with your extension.

For example I was always told that I could only get a re-enty permit here in Phuket. Yet when I wanted to make a short visit to Laos I had no problem obtaining a re-entry permit in Nong Khai immigration office.

Yet my wife's nephew who is a senior immigration officer in Hua Hin told me I could not apply for my extenion in his area. Asked him if he could do it given years (and years) of hassle at Phuket Office.

I don't think it's actually in the airport. The full address is on the Immigration website under Region 6.

Do yo know of a nice hotel nearby? I'm not on a budget and like amenities such as a halfway decent mattress, climate I can control and decent TV

There are no hotels out by the airport. In town the best is Buri Sriphu IMHO.

This probably won't help you with your specific problem, but I recently moved from Phuket and got my one-year permit to stay extension in Haad Yai Immigration.

One of the key differences is that for a one-year-extension based on marriage, Haad Yai requires some different documents, but checks them with greater scrutiny. You also need a Thai guarantor if it is your first time extending there (no, ten years of marriage does not qualify the wife to perform that task)

To whomever it might help, I recounted my experience in the following thread: (see final post for conclusions)

Best of luck
