Travel insurance loophole?

Featured Replies

I (US citizen) am considering travel insurance for a 9 month stay in Thailand and SE Asia for my family of 5. Global Partner (ACS/Allianz) travel insurance (and other travel insurance, as far as I can tell) includes the following statement in the policy: The benefits for medical expenses end if our medical team deems that the Member can be repatriated to his country of origin.

Has anyone heard of this happening? Should I be concerned that I would be sent back to US, where I would not have current health insurance?

Yes, this is travel insurance, not health insurance. So as soon as medically possible you'll be repatriated, and are supposed to use your own health insurance. If you don't have that, that is your problem at that point.

Generally however you are entitled to a ticket to return here when you have recovered and complete your holiday.

And oif withing the insurance period that will still be valid as well.
