Thinking of going to KL to buy a small guitar amp not available in Thailand (size of a small suitcase). I think if I asked them to ship it to BKK that I'd have to pay a substantial tariff. But have also heard, if shipped to a Thai national there is often no tariff. ? (I may have friend who'd receive it for me.)

Anyhow, I might just make a vacation of it and fly down. If I bought and carried back on plane (in original box, most likely), do you think they'd require me to pay a tariff at airport?

BTW, about 5 months ago a friend carried a new bicycle for me when flying back to BKK from the US. It was new in box and he didn't have to pay any tariff. (He's flown over with several of his own bikes and has never had to pay tariff. He's Thai, but grew up in the US, but I doubt that made any difference.)

Side question: Is Chiang Wattana now the only place to get rear-entry permits?

(PS—I tried looking up tariff at thai gov site. Seems like a while back I managed to find what I was looking for, but couldn't this time. Probably just not persistent enough....)

Thx

The term is re-entry, although you may feeli like someone tried to rear entry sometimes.

They can be obtained at the Airport I believe.

I believe you can still get "Rear Entry Permits" in Silom, the Soi before Patpong 1 and Patpong 2.

Take a trip and get your amp after you've got your REP.
