EMS by Thailand Post - a warning: add insurance!

Sent some electronics to a friend. 52 Baht with EMS. 2,000 Baht insurance and sign for. Well...

Turns out mail gets dumped at his condo. Anyone could have grabbed the envelope.

Am disappointed and want to share so thatr you may add insurance if you send something valuable.

Had sent an I-Phone 5S by EMS and it arrived...

This is a first.

Insurance or not when someone signs to receive the parcel (even the postman) nothing will be refunded.

very true and in my experience of thaipost, even with insurance, they never ever pay out on a claim

Wrong. But only just smile.png wrong. They do payout, but the aggravation is simply not worth it, we tried it, got paid but a LOT of work, having said that this tends to be universal, every postal service tries to grind you down. These days I tend simply to disguise what I'm sending, Wrap a phone in a jumper or similar and send it ordinary post.

If you send it to the UK dont insure it ,they tax you if its over about 30 quid ,sent some stuff insured for 130 quid ,my sister got taxed and vat the other end ,woman in post office told her to tell me ,never say how much its worth ,you wont get paid out in Thailand if its lost ,and just taxed in the UK rolleyes.gif

Under regulations you cannot send a parcel into the UK without a customs declaration and a value.

EMS items are insured, the process to claim takes time but it does work. I have claimed for both "late" and "lost" and never a problem.

I send parcels to uk every week without any customs declaration and value and never had any problem. If we start to follow the stupid rules here or anywhere we would feel as stupid as the ones who decided them !!!

I don't think you sent the package by EMS you sent it registered mail. 52 baht is very cheap for EMS and EMS will always leave a pink card for collection at the Post Office if there is no one to receive it.
