Retirement piggyback for wife refused

Featured Replies

I have a retirement visa and my new wife is 41 yrs old from Myanmar . She just came back from Bangkok immigration and they told her she can't get a NON O to be a dependent on my

retirement visa because I don't have a work permit . This doesn't sound right , does anybody have a retirement visa with a wife as a dependent ? How did you get it ?

A retired person can't have a wife here ?whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif

I have both 800,000 and income . They told me to go to the USA embassy , but didn't say why ?

I assume you have an extension of stay not a visa. If you have a OA visa she will not be able to get an extension.

Was she trying to apply for the visa or the extension of stay? Immigration will not do a conversion to a non immigrant visa entry for a dependent extension

She must already have a non-o visa from an embassy or consulate before she can apply for the extension.

  1. The point is they are refusing to give her a NON O anywhere because I don't have a work permit , just on a 15 yr retirement extension .

"They" who? I fail to see what a WP has to do with a non-O dependent visa. Also what is a "15 yr retirement extension" ?

Anyway, your case is identical to the one in thread below.

They have never done a non immigrant visa based upon a dependent extension for a retiree that I know of. It is certainly nothing new.

She will have to go to a nearby embassy or consulate and apply for a non-o visa by showing a copy of your marriage certificate, passport photo page and your extension of stay stamp. Then 45 days after she enters the country she will be able to apply for a dependent extension.

I thought you were asking for help here. Help has been given and you still find it necessary to insult the people after you have used incorrect terminology?

As you said 'she came back from immigration', which is not where she should be. She should be at an embassy/consulate.

They are the window clerks at the consulate that hand the papers to some one hiding in the back and can't tell you why they say no . I too can't figure out why the retirement visa is no good

and you need a work permit . The advise I received here was shall we say not accurate ? Also if someone says they renewed a retirement visa why do you have to keep telling them they

extended it . Do they have to say they renewed the extension ? When one starts a new topic you might get a few good answers after you sort out the garbage . Most answers are not worth listening too . If you don't have anything constructive to add , don't .

I sent her to Bangkok immigration after being turned down by two consulates , one consulate said I had no bank statement (not required ) I had to tell her it was in the Kbank envelope right in front of her . I realize if they were smart they wouldn't be window clerks .

Which consulates did you go to? What documents did you have?

Did you have copies of your extension stamp included in the paperwork? Was your marriage certificate in Thai or English?

I have removed some posts. It is time to start all over again to get the problem resolved.
