BANGKOK: -- The Board of Investment (BOI) says foreign investment continue to flow into the country with investors applying for promotion privileges for their investment projects worth about 300 billion baht in the first half of this year.

BOI secretary-general Udom Wongviwatchai said the request for privileges have been approved by the BOI.

He said the BOI expected total foreign investment projects would reach 700 billion baht for the entire year.

He said continuation of applications for promotion privileges reflected the confidence foreign investors have on the country.

The projects centre on service, automobile, chemical product, electrical and electronic product and transport sectors.

He also said that after the military takeover by the National Council for Peace and Order, arrivals of foreign investors from the United States and Europe were improving compared with those in the same period last year.

Investors now are paying more attention to long-term investment and economic fundamentals in Thailand rather than local political problems, Mr Udom said.
