Train killing raises queries about Thai attitude to violent crimes

I can well imagine execution for rape meaning a field day for girls working as prostitutes in Thailand and any Thai lady of devious mind

Threats of extortion are rife in Thailand, lots of females have tried it on with me over the years.

If castration and execution were on the table, I'm sure lots of ladies would be on the bandwagon asking for 'millions of baht, or I'll report you to the police for raping me'

Worrying!

However, he said that the death penalty wasn't an effective way to prevent crimes.

But it is: the executed is fully prevented from committing any crime ever again, q.e.d.

And if they got the wrong guy, the guilty party is clear to commit more and more crimes.

Castration for ALL sexual offences should be mandatory.

Castration and life in prison for all sexual offences against children.

Death penalty for rape and murder.

As prostitution is illegal, this will create a bit of a problem for the slobs in Pattaya.

If any society was examined deeply enough, one would discover that to some extent there is selective morality. However, in some societies it is more rampant, obvious and accepted. I wonder if all these people promoting the death penalty for rape would be so adamant if it was pointed out to them that beating and forcing sex on their wives/partners is in fact rape.

A correction to your post and numerous others. Rape is a capital crime in Thailand and has been for roughly 20 years. The "society" it is accepted in is government (and junta) and justice. The law specifically accounts for spousal rape, a major reason it was proposed and passed by parliament in the first place.

No Thai is debating "whether" rape should be a capital crime, since it is. The point of the current public debate is that the death penalty has never been USED for a rape, and some people think it should be.

It may be confusing to non-Thais, because the current case that caused all the debate was not just a horrible and odious rape, but a rape followed by a rather gruesome murder. There have been five executions for cases involving rape, the last one in 2001. However, all five cases involved men who raped AND KILLED children ranging from 2 to 15 years old. All five cases were particularly brutal killings as well.

So the current debate is, essentially, "should we kill people who ONLY rape?" and it is more rhetorical than anything, since this train creep will face capital charges for rape and for murder.

Ok so that means if you were horny and your wife said " i dont want sex tonight, but you sex her anyway" that is unconsentual sex which is rape. You are ready to die for rape of your own wife? Ohh or be castrated? Since you dont understand RAPE you shouldn't be screaming your uneducated opinions.

You are really missing the point, and are starting to sound like a lawyer. He means the rape of a stranger, who was unknown, and in cases where it can be proven without a doubt. At that point castration would be delightful and beneficial. There are some acts from which you can never return. Rape is one of them. Rape of a child is a crime which cannot be forgiven under any circumstances. Please stop apologizing for the pigs of society. They love your sympathy, but it is ill advised.

But if your wife does to want sex and you force her that is still rape. How is it different from doing this to a stranger? Does your wife wave all of her rights just because she is married?

if you force a woman to have sex against her will it is rape, simple as that.

The Death penalty for rape - not suitable. For rape and then murder or even attempted murder - there is an argument for it and it has to be a different punishment than rape without murder.

Rape without murder or the attempt of should then at least require full castration to protect future victims. Most of the newborn eunuchs will commit suicide afterwards anyway - would be a win win situation smile.png

Unfortunately that is not the common result. Since rape is an act of violence, the castrated male will find other ways to torture his victims. Isolating him from the public is the most effective way to protect society.

I was kind of assuming that incarceration would be alongside castration - not one or the other but both.

"ALL" sexual offenses? Seems that prostitution and soliciting the same would qualify in your mind. There will be long lines for execution on that one.

"ALL" sexual offenses against children. What are ALL offenses in this category? Fondling through clothing qualify in your mind?

Please do some reseach on castration as it applies to sexual crimes. Does your definition of castration involve removal of just the testis or the penis as well?

Don't forget arsonists, traitors, embezzlers and the like. Where do you draw the line?

I think you and Draco share a lot in common.

You can debate back and forth about this but the route problem is violence against woman and it is shown on TV. They obscure someone smoking on TV and sensor it but when it comes to someone hitting a woman there is no censorship.

This is one of the problems Little boys here in Thailand see it and think its OK to hit a woman and I read an article here that says that 13 % of Thai woman say its OK for a husband or boyfriend to hit them if they do bad

WOW its not ok for a man to hit a woman for any reason And I can assure you this guy who raped this girl on the train is a partial victim of Thai society albeit he is a bad man and should pay for his crime It is because of Thai society that says its ok to abuse a Thai woman who are partially to blame.

Thai society should have 0 tolerance of violence against woman and should ban it totally from TV. Why teach little boys its ok to hit a woman ?

In the law its the same, but of course in reality rape has 1000s of degrees so its many rapes of wives don't reflect the same as a violent rape of a stranger.
