Any problems with Non O marriage visa from Savannakhet with no bank funds?

Featured Replies

Hi all on TV, I am going to Savannakhet Laos early next month for a Non O marriage visa and was wondering if anybody is getting 'knocked' back for not having the necessary funds in their bank account?

I am currently on a 2 month marriage visa, which i obtained in my local imm office with no problems, but now need to get a 12 month one and was told that Savannakhet does this without the funds.

Looking forward to hearing your views or experiences from there.

Many thanks Kevin

Judging by reports here they are still being issued with no problems.

Don't forget to leave the country every 90 days when you get it.

Correct LB. I attended the Thai consulate Savan on Tuesday and received a non-imm O multiple visa at 1530hrs the same day.

Along with the relevant documents, I also included proof of funds which was not required and therefore returned to me.

How long will this continue? Only time will tell.

Hi there,

I got a multiple entry non-o from savannakhet on Monday, I had a folder full of documents that weren't required. All I handed over were my wife's signed and dated copies of ID card, marriage cert and house registration. The only other document I had to pull out was the original marriage certificate.

Agree, if it's not asked for don't show it.

After further consideration, I agree with the above.

Only show documentation that is necessary at that time, although be prepared if asked for further docs.

Enjoy

Hi and I agree with Khwaibah.

Why give them more than required or requested. Just the bare minimum.

If they don't ask don't show. Don't offer. It will bite you in the ass later.

It is better for all.

That's good to hear, thanks for the latest border and Savannakhet report, i am getting a little worried, but you never know when anything changes so its good to know someone has done it recently.

Cheers for that.

I have seen one guy get turned down for a visa at savannakhet - i assume for a tourist visa - but he was a hippy traveller type, and whilst waiting at the consulate, he was walking around, strumming his ukulele. He was also doing this in the centre of town, to much amusement from the local people. leave your ukulele at home and you will be fine.

Can anyone tell me: this proof of funds, does the money have to be in a Thai bank, or can it be proof of money from the bank from my own country?

(Here in Holland I have to show proof of 20,000 euro's in the bank to get a multiple non-o)

Thanks for your answer.

If you are asking about a 12 month extension from Immigration, the 400,000 Baht has to be in a Thai bank at least 2 months before applying.

If you are asking about a Non Imm O Visa from Savanakhet, no funds are needed at the moment.

I can't abide these folks who go armed with every doc under the sun even though it's not required and they know it's not required.

Look at me everyone, I've got everything here...

(...and I have to come back tomorrow)

I have to take this route also. I am wondering if I will get a 2 month extension on my one month since it would be the second 2 month extension with a single month non extended visa is on it.(More convenient since Ban Ron was open).

What can be very hard.

There are many topics on this forum along with this one that tells a different story.

There is no need for an agent.

As I've mentioned previously, things can change in an instant. Carry all relevant documentation and be prepared to handover to the consulate guy that one document he asks for that's not included in the application package.

Unless of course you are prepared for another round trip to Savan or wherever.

Remember, not everyone reads ThaiVisa and therefore they go armed with all the necessary docs to submit to a Thai Embassy/Consulate of their choosing.

I think I will have to go there next month.

Can anyone who knows the travel options well, give me a brief run down on the route and costs etc.

I will have to make my way from Suratthani, so a step by step from BKK would be great info for me and many other folk who have never used that border/consulate before.

Thanks

My post from 09 July

Have just returned from Savannakhet where I received a Non-Imm O visa multiple.

For those that are unaware, it's now same day service. I left Mo Chit Monday evening and arrived Savan Tuesday morning where I applied for visa at Thai Cons and collected same day at 1530hrs. Many buses to Mukdahan to BKK arriving here at 0600hrs this morning.

Recommended VIP bus which leaves Mo Chit at 2030hrs every day and operated by Sahaphanroied Co.Ltd. 32 seater with plenty of leg room costing only B620. The VIP buses operatated by Transport Co Ltd which cost B899 are aimed at the Farang and are no different to the ones costing B620, just fewer seats.

Documents submitted

1. Khor Ror 2 in lieu of original marriage cert

2. Copies of: Marriage Cert, translation of, proof of finance, my passport, wife's ID card, house book and all signed together with B5,000.

Enjoy. END

There are many buses that leave Mo Chit, two in the morning around 0800hrs and several in the evening. The evening bus is the one you want to catch as they arrive in Mukdahan early morning (expect the buses that stop everywhere and cost around B500). When you arrive, proceed to the front of the terminal building and locate the window for Int'l bus departures, Mukdahan to Savannakhet. Services start at 07.30hrs and cost B50 one way.

When you arrive at Savan Bus terminal get a tuk tuk for approx B40 to the Thai embassy. Gates open around 0900 hrs. Submit your application and collect passport same day at 03.30hrs. Return travel the same although you might have to wait sometime in Mukdahan BS for an evening departure unless you plan to extend your stay in the sleepy town of Savannakhet.

PS There is currently no requirement for proof of funds in Savannakhet

Lao visa processing is straightforward. Exit Thailand and enter Lao. Visa fee is either B1,500 or $35 new notes which works out cheaper. Nothing more to pay although I've heard from other posters that a B40 fee is levied for the Lao visa stamp.

Thanks for that info. Appreciated

Savannakhet is handling "financial-requirements" in a very liberal way. The "big immigration-office" in BKK most likely is aware of this practice that it is not 100% in accordance with the intent of the law.

So, Savannakhet is a "Rouge-Outpost", If Savannakhet is brought into line eventually, where is the next Savannakhet? As far as I can see: There is none !

For those that it concerns: Prepare yourself !

In other words, final para, have in your possession proof of funds if asked for.

Always submit the correct documents whether they are all required or not.

I have some difficulty understanding this. A copy of my dentist's last bill would also be "a correct document", but for a visa application I should think that a correct document is a document that the consulate has indicated to be required for this application. As you said, "things can change in an instant" and I would not call it a bad idea to take along some extra documents that are not listed as a requirement on the consulate's website or were not asked for with my previous application, but I would hand them over only if requested.

You see, the risk is that if I submit more documents than officially required, a consulate may think it is a good idea to request these additional documents also of subsequent applicants, then somebody else again submits some other additional documents, and so forth, and before I know it I have to hire a lorry -- exaggerating a bit -- to carry all required documents.

I recently went for a 30 day visa at Mae Sai border with all documents about my marriage, house and my bank book, and yes i know it was over the top, but guess what? the border guard pulled me to one side and said i could not get a 30 day extension, then i showed him every bit of paperwork i had in my brief case and he allowed me to get my 30 days.

So i agree, take everything and some !

Hi Maestro

Perhaps this wording is more apt.

Always submit the REQUIRED documentation for the type of visa you are applying for although in the case of a Non-Imm O visa multiple from Savannakhet, there is currently no requirement to submit 'proof of funds, but always be prepared.

You can now visit your dentist 'pain free'
