Anyone familiar,

Changing my Non-B to a Non-0 (based on marriage and supporting kids) in Savannakhet; with proof of income and contract job with salary over 40,000 etc, birth certificates, all other requirements etc...

My HR staff told me I must bring my wife and kids to the embassy in Lao, to apply for the new Visa. Is this really necessary? Two overnight bus trips is unreasonable for very young children and my wife is working. Has anyone here personally got a marriage visa without the wife present?

Thanks!

It think somebody is confusing getting a non-o visa and and an extension of stay at immigration.

To get a single entry non-o visa you will not need your wife with you. Just a signed and dated copies of her house book and ID card along with your marriage certificate.

Then you you could apply for an extension of stay based upon marriage during the last 30 days of the 90 entry the visa allows. Your wife would need to be with you for this.

Hi ubonjoe,

Sorry to only reply to this thread now but sadly, after 2 hours on the internet, I'm still confused about this issue. I have been married to my Thai wife for over 4 years and have been extending my tourist visa but now wish to get a non 0 marriage visa from Savannakhet. My questions are this:

Do I need to get a 90 day single entry visa first and then before 90 days expire go again to Savannakhet and do a 1 year extension? Or can I get a 1 year non o right away?

Also, once in possession of a one year non o, do I have to exit Thailand every 90 days or can I report to my local immigration office?

Many thanks.

You can apply for the multiple entry non-o without getting a single entry first. You will have to leave the country every 90 days or you can get one 60 day extension to visit your wife for each entry.

Only if you got a one year extension of stay based upon marriage would you be able to make reports to immigration.

After further consideration, I agree with the above.

Only show documentation that is necessary at that time, although be prepared if asked for further docs.

Enjoy

Fiat lux! ;-)
