I am not currently not in Thailand right now but am still paying on a 2007 Toyota Hilux Vigo, 3.0L V8. I have about 2.5 years left for payments on it but wondering if I should just give it back. I use it, of course, when I am not there and place to use when it when I settle down there permanently. I was wondering if the vehicle is worth it or should I just give it up back and get one when I know when I stay there for a longer period of time? I really hate using taxi's and the local buses...any thoughts?

Unless you're a farmer or a window cleaner get rid of it and get a real car.

What is a real car? I wanted a truck originally because of lousy and crazy Thai people drive. I had a Mitsubishi Lancer before and it was like riding a roller coaster. When I got the truck, the Thai drivers seemed to respect the size a little more and not go too crazy around me.

By real car, one can only assume he means a Vios or Corolla..coffee1.gif

Back on topic, did Toyota make a 3 Litre V8....3 Litre diesel I am aware of. Tranny drives one - surprised he hasn't been along to comment yet...

If you hand it back you might get a good hiding and find it hard to get finance again if you want it.

Your question on whether to keep it or not only you can answer, your the only one who knows of your circumstances as to your future in Thailand.

My wife says it would hurt oir credit in Thailand if we did hand it back.

I can try to find some pictures I took of her.

She us indeed a diesel or diesohol as my wife calls it.

If you are not currently not in Thailand. That would actually make you in Thailand... A double negative equalls a positive.

Pay it off, you've probably got under 200,000B to pay and the truck is worth nearly double that.

In which case why not just ask the finance co. for permission to sell and a settlement figure? Sell it privately, pay off the finance co. & pocket the best part of 200,000 + have no more payments to make?

Clearly the OP thinks the payments are considerable v the use he gets from it.

If it's a 2007 model and you're still paying it off, I'm guessing it was used when you bought it which means you're probably paying a high interest rate, and might not get any early payout discounts.

In any case, if it's not being driven it's not improving, and you're still paying road tax and presumably insurance, so if you can find a buyer at a good price, it would make sense to move it on.

The seller lied to you about those extra 4 cylinders BTW.

I have about $7,000 left on her.

That is something I have not considered. Will talk to the Misses about that.

I know its a V8 but will have to ask wife's dad to take a look under the hood. I am probably wrong about the liters but will confirm it. I didn't get more knowledgeable about engines until about a year ago when looking stateside for a truck. Yep, I bought it used.

If you've got a 2007 Model Hilux with a V8 engine and proper paperwork, you won't have *any* problems selling here on ThaiVisa I expect :)
