I'll let you guys workout if it's a conspiracy or a slap in the face of his old mates cohorts.

I am more interested in the birthday cake! What does a criminal ex-PM on the run have in the way of a birthday cake?

Being in Paris it could be 'très grande'.

Thaksin wouldn't want the likes of Jatuporn, Nattawut or Thida to be seen in the palatial surroundings of the 5 star hotel he will be occupying. Mere hoi polloi all of them.

Sounds like a deal has been done, sounds like he has sold out his "redshirts" again.

Well saying publicly he does not want them to go saves losing face when he is Billy No Mates at his own party with just him and Yingluck playing musical chairs.

You are sooooo right. Personally I always send telegrams to the Kings and Queens around the world to tell them I will totally understand if they're too busy to attend my birthday, and I'm pleased to say they consistently acknowledge my messages by not showing up. How considerate and royal indeed.

On the subject of who 'owns' a joke ...

George Bernard Shaw once made a very funny comment in some social gathering, and Oscar Wilde was within earshot.

Oscar Wilde : That is extremely funny, I wish I'd said that !

George B. Shaw : Oh but you will, Oscar, you will !

So... If Noël Coward 'stole' one of Wilde's bons mots, it's just kind of karma material ... and I bet the great O.W. wouldn't mind anyway.

Why is he always referred to "former prime minister"; a "fugitive" would be more up-to-date and, according to the rightful courts of the Kingdom, the present title ...........

I couldn't have crowbarred the name Coward in then dear boy ;)

(I was hoping no one would notice)

As an aside, did you know that Wilde used to have a pet lobster that he would take for walks around London on a leash, when asked "why a lobster?" he would reply "because it doesn't bark"

I surmise that Khun T is trying the same thing, but in a different city, with a crab.

I wonder what his reply to "why a crab?" would be.

Maybe he wants only his family & close friends, so he doesn't have to listen to another few 100 people that need his financial assistance for various problems / projects.

This is a (Briefing Party) under the guise of a birthday party.

Possibly looking at real estate properties?

Joking aside this (BP) will be Mr. T's next move on the chess board.beatdeadhorse.gif.pagespeed.ce.adWp7jUAu

Since it is his sister, he'd probably just poo poo the idea.

Actually this could have been a deal brokered between the Junta and thaksin.... Don't invite PTP or any Reds Shirts and we will let your sister leave the country.

So you are saying the junta are making deals with a known fugitive criminal? (insert many more descriptive nasty words here)

SIR,what a negative post, no flowers for you

I feel sorry not for Thaksin who I do wish a happy birthday but for the above posters who are so happy at the thought he won't have one.

I feel sad for them as they clearly have little else to do other than wish misery on people they don't know (but think they do) and feel some strange need to say so publicly here.

Are you hoping your views will some how make you popular on TV? Just what is your motivation for spewing out such hatred?

Get a life guys

I feel the same way. Such anger and judgement from a bunch of hateful people. I feel like I'm tuned into Fox News in the U. S. The rhetoric sounds very nasty, biased, and divisive. All is not as it seems and I would caution against taking sides in this unfortunate THAI situation. Most of us are here as guests and, I believe, as guests we should try to keep a positive attitude and not promote more of the same anger and accusations that have been a major part of the dialogue over the past couple of years. Seek the truth, if you can find the time between negative posts. I think you'll be more than a bit surprised.

Red Politicians Barred From Thaksin's Birthday Bash

By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has reportedly told political aides to stay away from his 64th birthday party, which is expected to take place in France on 26 July.

Sources inside the Thaksin-allied Pheu Thai Party say the former leader has made it clear that Redshirt leaders and Pheu Thai politicians are not welcome to the birthday party in Paris; Mr. Thaksin has reportedly requested that only family members attend the celebration.

"He did not want any trouble and did not want [Redshirt politicians] to draw attention from the NCPO," a source explained, referring to the military junta's National Council for Peace and Order, which overthrew the government allied to Mr. Thaksin on 22 May.

Mr. Thaksin's birthday has traditionally been marked with much fanfare by Redshirt supporters, who organised religious ceremonies at local temples on his behalf, and Pheu Thai politicians, who flew to attend his birthday party in whichever country he was residing in at the time.

The former leader was deposed in a 2006 military coup and has been living in a self-imposed exile since 2009 to avoid corruption convictions. Nevertheless, Mr. Thaksin retained much influence over the successive governments led by his trusted proxies, including his younger sister Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Yingluck free to leave

The military junta recently approved Ms. Yingluck's request to travel abroad, presumably to attend her brother's birthday party this Saturday.

However, there are speculations that Ms. Yingluck intends to leave Thailand for good — following her brother's footsteps — after the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) found her guilty of negligence in regards to her government’s controversial rice-pledging scheme last week.

The NACC claims that corruption associated with the program has cost the state more than 500 billion baht in damages and that Ms. Yingluck did nothing to stop the malfeasance. The case will now be sent to the Office of the Attorney-General, who will pursue charges under Article 157 of the Criminal Codes against Ms. Yingluck in Criminal Court. If convicted, Ms. Yingluck could face a maximum prison term of 10 years and a fine of 20,000 baht.

A recent opinion survey reveals that a majority of Thais believe Ms. Yingluck will not return from her trip to Europe, although Ms. Yingluck insisted that she would be back to fight her case in court.

Sources close to Ms. Yingluck say that the former Prime Minister and her 13-year-old son are due to leave Thailand at 1 am on 23 July. Her itinerary includes a visit to Germany, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, according to the sources.

Some of Ms. Yingluck's critics have criticised the NCPO for allowing her to leave while she faces a trial in Thailand.

But Gen. Teeradech Meepian, former deputy of the now-dissolved Senate, defended the decision and said the NCPO is certain Ms. Yingluck is merely going on a vacation trip.

"Both the NCPO and the NACC have considered [Ms. Yingluck's permission to travel] to be appropriate," Gen. Teeradeth said, "I believe it's not a plan to free the tiger into the forest as many people have criticised or speculated."

Well, maybe after k. Thaksin has celebrated his 64th birthday for family only, maybe his 65th birthday this year can be celebrated more publicly?

PS for those with only ten fingers to count, Thaksin was born in 1949)

Damn, i guess I have to cancel my flight to Paris.

Whew! We were all private messaging each other frantically about whether you were going or not.

Thaksin will be heartbroken if Bob fails to show.

Yes, they do have a decidedly "working class" tinge to them, don't they. What would he have in common socially wth Jatuporn or Thiida, anyway.
