I hereby apologise to all the English people on the forum, in stating aloud that I thought England would win the world cup. I was completely out of turn, and should have followed the lead of most of you in saying England were rubbish. The fact that they played like heroes for almost half the match, after losing Becks and Rooney, doesn't come into it. The fact that Rooney was sent off for nothing also doesn't count. The fact that we were denied a blatent handball penalty is also worthless.

I hope you will accept me back into your ranks, but if you like I will stand on the tallest building in Surin every week for a year and shout at the top of my voice

" England are crap" so I can fall in line with the rest of you. Again, please accept my sincere apologies for believing in my team.

I hope you will accept me back into your ranks,

Are you sure you will be accepted? Do you want to join any club that will have you as a member? :o

Handball wasn't blatant, he even tried to pull his hand away from the ball - at least that's what I saw on replays.

Lennon put a bit more life in the game than Beckham.

And Rooney. sigh.. After so much talk... It just didn't happen. Who's fault it is that the whole campaign was tied up to the smallest of his bones? All the eggs in one basket.

I believed till the last Ronaldo's penalty that England will win. I was sure the youngster will screw up his shot. He didn't. Lucky bastard.

The fact that Rooney was sent off for nothing

For kicking someones balls he was for sure well worthy of the RED card. Ref. did an excellent job keeping this match together the way he did. Portugal did have a great goalie, England did not have scorers. Sad to end it on penalties but that's the way it is. Suck it up and acknowledge the better team... :D

I thought England played well during the whole game.... they came alive when Lennon came on... I really thought we were going to win..it was the best I have seen England play in a long time.

I can't see what Rooney did wrong? He was being squeezed out by 2 players with his head down..he did not even know where his feet were.. it was not his fault Carvaliho's nuts got in his way!!

The handball..was not a handball, no doubt about it.

What a revelation Owen Hargreaves has been.....I think he was England's best player tonight and fully desrved his inclusion.

But the Penalty shootout was a shambles.

Lampard has had a dreadful World Cup, Gerrard, not much better, with everyone else unavailable..you would bet your bottom dollar on them both converting penalties...their efforts were so poor and will be remembered for a long time. Carragher is NOT a penalty taker, he was unfortunate ..for a non penalty taker to have to re-take a kick is very difficult.

So that is that for another 2 years till Euro 2008, some positives came out of it though, Lennon was great, Cole,Terry, Cole, Hargreaves all did their jobs as well as they could.

The build up to the coming of Rooney was a disaster, but hopefully he can improve.. Gerrard and Lampard are NORMALLY reliable dependable players and will serve us well for the next four years.. just a pity they both had rubbish World Cup's at the same time!

And dont even start me on Crouchie.. and Owen is past his best , and Beckham may not get the same favourable treatment under McLaren

So bring on Euro 2009 as soon as possible, so we can forget this and move on

in the end, every team (and their fans) will cry ...except for the team that wins the world cup and the one that wins 3rd place. :D

3rd place is the easiest (most comforting) place to win as you are ejoying this win and licking the wounds from the loss in the semifinals..

Germany-Brazil in the finals (I think :o )

2008? :o

Yes. But then only European countries? Not same competition.

Carragher substituted Lennon with less than two minutes to play. Surely it was for penalties only.

And he deserved missing it - look how the tricky bastard tried to fool everybody. He was walking away, then suddenly turned around and took a quick shot hoping no one will notice. No one paid attention, that what's happened. Keeper didn't even bother to react, and the ref had a yellow in his hand when he talked to Carragher. For a moment I thought he was going to get booked.

Otherwise I totally agree with Thaipaully's assessment.

World Cup Semifinals

Germany, Italy, Portugal, France. How's it different?

Not one, but two handballs in the Portuguese box. Both significantly diverted the ball away from an England player and both ignored by the ref.

Rooney sent off! For what? Several Portuguese tackles were far worse and the ref didn't even give a free kick.

The ref was Argentinian, 'nuff said!

Except that England were the better team, especially in the second half, but once again their finishing let them down.

Considering the weak teams that England were lucky enough to be drawn against to get this far, they haven't exactly been a goal scoring machine, have they?

Three missed penalties? They deserved to lose!

Crap team + Crap manager = Crap result.

Just how big is that chip on your shoulder, lampard?

You just don't get it, do you! But then your type never does. (where's your fin-whatwvere mate?)

Possibly if more criticism had been accepted earlier on in the piece, changes could have been made to hone the England squad more effectively, but garbage like your rants are a good case in point for the opposite.

I think you misread the post. This was directed as the English masses. Not you.Dark humour is completely lost on you isn't it. Obviously you saw another chance to insult someone. However I will not stoop to the name calling tactics, accusations of homosexuality, and general nastieness, that people like you hide behind your pen & computer screen and throw at people you have never met. I thought the modern German male was pleasant, affable, fair-minded and genial, obviously the Aussie in you cancels these goods traits out.

And one-eyed john. I hope those remarks were not made to me. I have no quarrel with jackr.

I agree W.A.L.O.Bks.

As for heroes, these players have been paid mega bucks once again to keep producing this crap.

I said before the world cup England where rubbish and i,m sorry to say they have proved me right again.

When are you supporters goint to stop taking all the propagander in and accept the obvious that stares you in the face time after time.

The players are taking the p*** out of you and you are falling like no brains ( which i know you are not ) season after season and supporting there inflated wages by going through the turnstyles and buying there club merchandise.

What a financial farce it,s all turned into.

Sign me a real supporter, but with a bit more common sense.

I feel sorry for all the fans that spent their hard earned cash to go to Germany of all places fot their summer holidays this year, only to be let down by players that turn it on week in week out in the EPL.

We either watched it at home or down the pub..not much finacial or emotional imput for us.....they have now gotta get up this morning pack their bags and come home dissappointed.

The players and their "Squeezes" will board their private planes, jet back to the UK and by Monday they will all have jetted off to their private islands in the Sun or Richard Branson's Island and relax, unwind, check their bank balances on-line to see how many Millions they made from their respective clubs and sponsers whilst they were on International Duty and forget all about there disaterous part in this World Cup...only a few players can hold their heads up and say they did everything that was asked of them....Lennon, Hargreaves, Terry maybee one or two more.

Nice little jaunt for Theo Walcott though...... not even a kick.. what a waste of time when either Ashton, Bent or Defoe could have gone and done a far far better job than Peter Crouch....I really hope that Steve McCLaren can see that this guy has no business being an International Player, now or ever.....not HIS fault he was included, what would any of us say (Who are English) if we were asked to represent our National Team "No I am not good enough" Of course not..but he really cannot play football.

Anyway...Here's to our next adventure... I wonder if the addage "We will never have a better side or a better chance of winning the World Cup" will be echoed again in 4 years time?

Nice post, TP. Big shame about little Walcott not havin a kick but apparently he was not performing in training, although, as you say, perhaps Defoe should have been there.

Roll on Euro 08 :o

What about the Ozzy fans, the Trididad fans etc. These two teams didn't even get as far as England, and Oz were cheated.

Overall England had the Referees on their side.

What is so special about the English?

The arrogance amazes me.

Svenj got it completely wrong and should accept the blame.

Crouch, Rooney, Beckham, Owen - would you have taken them?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I would not have taken them. Yet the manager does not worry he is off with his $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ In fact he was well off before they even went to Germany :o

Apparently yes, if that is your interpretation. To me it means the same as bosom buddy and that does not have anything to do with breasts.

As I've said before, I am disappointed that England are out - they could have given the last few games much nore intensity and sport than Portugal.

Apols all round for any confusion :o

You wil be pleased to know that all the unfashional teams gained a lot of respect in England as i,m sure was the case everywhere and we should all look to you and get back to basics and putting real heart into the game, and not expecting financial reward to play for our country.

As an Englishman who was home for the world cup, plenty of people where sick and tired of all the papers and news programmes ingnoring the more important / serious news that was going on / happening and brainwashing us all with gems like patriotism and for the sake of our country.

You should have witnessed us all trying to find even one paper that wasn,t covered in the crap.

There where many days when many went away empty handed, even on Sundays, me included.

Not just the so called tabloids.

Last thing, when a footballer pulls his shirt and kisses the club / country badge after scoring a goal.

Just remember this.

If he isn,t paid substantial wages and all the perks that go with it he wouldn,t give a shit about the love of it all, or who he,s representing........................................and that,s a sad but honest fact. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for patriotism being linked to this when most of the supporters don,t give a shit about the quality of life among our citizens, apart from their own.

That really is insulting our intelligence.

It is / was about money and commercialism, nothing more and nothing less and will continue to be so.

I thought Crouch did a good job when he came on. If you get past the appearance he's a decent player, especially on the floor. I'd have liked to see Defoe there but I'd definitely take Crouch over Bent.
