Hello

Is it possible to get married in a thai embassy/consulate? Let's say in Malaysia. My gf says that we can get married in thai consulate in Malaysia because she's thai citizen. she shows me this text as proof but i cannot read thai yet so i wonder if there's anyone who's able to read thai and can translate this for me

"นายทะเบียนสถานเอกอัครราชทูตหรือสถานกงสุลใหญ่ไทยสามารถจดทะเบียนสมรสตามกฎหมายไทยเฉพาะกรณีที่คู่สมรสฝ่ายใดฝ่ายหนึ่งมีสัญชาติไทยเท่านั้น"

Does this mean that we can get married in there or does that mean we can register our marriage in thailand through embassy which means we already should be married beforehand.

No. After getting married at whatever office Malaysian law designates for this purpose, you and your wife can go to the Thai consulate and get a Thai certificate documenting your marriage.

My gf called Chaeng Wattana and learnt that it's actually possible(as non muslims cant get married in Malaysia). So now I wonder after we'll get married, can I obtain non immigrant O visa anywhere in Malaysia? or can I straight come to Thailand and show marriage documents to get visa exemption? I couldn't get tourist visa from Phnom Penh since all the agencies told me that they don't issue tourist visa to turkish passports in there.

Tourist visa exemption depends on your nationality, regardless of your marital status.

It is not clear from your posts whether you plan to live in Thailand after your marriage. If you do, it will probably be less complicated if you travel to Thailand first and get married there.

Sorry for not explaining that clearly, yes i want to live in Thailand after the marriage. The problem is I'm refused to get tourist visa from Phnom Penh. I was told by all the agencies that doesn't matter if I have overstay stamp on my passport or not, they just don't issue visa to turkish passports in PP anymore so I'm afraid there will show up other things in other consulates aswell. We were planning to get married already once we return back to Thailand but now it's kind of hard. I was on overstay for long time (around a year) I cleared it few days ago and came to get visa to PP but got stucked here. I contacted agencies in Penang, they told me that there's no problem like that but we just want to make sure I can finally get visa without problem

If it gave you enough time to get married you could enter on 30 day visa exempt entry then go to Penang and get a single entry non-o visa and then apply for a one year extension based upon marriage.

The Thai side for getting married does not take but a few hours. But getting your affirmation of permit to marry from the Turkish embassy in Bangkok could be the hold up dependent upon their requirements.

Turkish embassies are pretty fast with those stuff, they told me that they can prepare it in few hours. Even getting a new passport from Turkey takes around 10 days approx. But the problem is do you really think that they would let me enter on 30 day visa exempt? I got overstay stamp on my passport (379 days exactly)

How long ago was the overstay? Normally they don't turn people back for an overstay unless they have been blacklisted. If you paid it on departure from the country you would not of been blacklisted.

Just few days ago I cleaned that overstay and left Thailand. I don't have blacklist as the rules aren't in effect yet. I'm just afraid they would turn me back because of that I just left the country and trying to get back in again. My gf is also by me so I guess I should try my chance.

Marriage procedure for non-Muslims in Malaysia: ...

Not very clear in the OP, but if someone is in the Thai Embassy it's like he is in Thailand, not in Malaysia. Malaysian laws do not apply there.

No idea if Thai can get married in their embassies though... ??

If you are flying in there is a better chance you will not have a problem. Havving your girl friend with you would help. Plus perhaps a ticket out to Penang would help.

Is it enough if I make flight reservation and print it out?

A printout of a confirmed flight would be accepted.

Thousands of times thank you!! I used this same flight ticket when I was in consulate but they refused me so I was afraid of getting refused at the airport aswell. After your posts I just wanted to try it and now I'm back to home in Thailand :) In airport I got in the lane and when It was my turn I just kept smiling and talked calmly. The officer was smiling aswell and when she checked out her computer and saw my overstay she just asked why I want to go to Thailand, I explained everything as how it is. Then I've shown my flight ticket out of Thailand and she talked with another officer. They asked me why overstayed and what I'm going to do in Thailand again. I told all the truth like I've done in consulate once more. They stamped my passport and asked me to read and sign this new overstay rules paper and that was all. It all took around 10-15 minutes.

I also told about the situation in Cambodia and they told me that They may have thought that Turkey is a terrorist country facepalm.gif.pagespeed.ce.EuN79TyYk_.gif

Glad things worked out for you. Now you can get married.

As soon as you get married you could go to immigration and get a 60 day extension to visit her if you wanted more time to get things sorted out before getting a non-o visas.
