cost of changing non b visa to retirement visa

Featured Replies

I was charged 22000baht,had major spinal surgery, had all of the correct documents ,medically unfit to travel visa, bank book plus letter from bank etc etc.used lawyer nearby my apartment as unable to travel on motorbike taxi's etc.no proper invoices given for breakdown costs.just basic receipts.think ive been taken advantage of due to my current medical condition.any non critical advice on this would be greatly appreciated

You've been taken by the lawyer. I can imagine that an honest agency could have charged perhaps few thousands.

There is no cost for the change. In fact you only change the reason for your stay in Thailand and pay the usual fee of 1,900 baht for the extension which will than be based on retirement instead of employment.

The form is the same, you just fill in another reason and provide the documentation that goes with that reason for an extension of stay.

Thanks guys.the lawyer initially asked me to deposit 21000 baht as there may me overstay penalties but i contacted my school employers who said that my visa is okay.lawyer then came up with story that immigration wanted more money and i would have to pay another 5000baht ontop of the 21000 baht i had already paid him which was supposed to be a deposit/estimate cost.is there a law society in thailand that i can lodge a formal complaint or should i go back to the lawyer and inform him of my intentions?many thanks for the advice.

President Roosevelt said it: "speak softly, and carry a big stick." Don't threaten your lawyer, he might sue you for coercion. If you get the address of a place where to complain, just do it. Optionally, you could ask your lawyer if he saw any reason why you should not seek the advice or such-and-such organisation, but he would probably charge you for his answer.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

There is the Law Society of Thailand, you can ask for information there.
