Sewage Truck Driver on-the-run after fatal road crash in South Pattaya

crash-15.jpg

PATTAYA: -- Police are currently hunting for a Pattaya City Hall Sewage Truck Driver who is wanted in connection with a fatal road accident on the Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya on Monday afternoon.

Police and medics were called to the scene of the crash at 3.20pm and began CPR on the victim, a female motorbike driver named as Khun Wasinporn age 21. CPR continued as she was taken away in an ambulance and her current condition is unknown.

A witness to the crash, Khun Tongbon aged 45 saw the Sewage Truck turn at-speed, off the Pattaya-bound carriageway of the Sukhumvit Road towards the South Pattaya Road when the truck struck a slower moving motorbike which was also making the same turn.

Hope the motorcyclist is OK. I'm ultra cautious when turning right in a car off Sukhumvit onto any of the roads off to the right as there are nearly always 3 lanes of traffic trying to get into 2 lanes!

However "fatal" and "condition unknown" are somewhat contradictory!

As always, nobody is proofreading these news stories for consistency or logic.

While having absolutely no sympathy for the piece of sh-- that ran away ,i hate it when you are turning left ot right and motorbikes try to dart in on the inside ,it happened yesterday ,how i missed the bike God alone knows ,hope she recovers.

Dunno why they always "hunt" the hit and run guys. They usually turn themselves in once the yabaa and alcohol is out of their system.

Why is it, that it is so rare for someone responsible for an accident like this, to stop and claim responsibility? Is there something about Thai society, that compels these clowns to always want to run away? A man does not run away. A man stops, claims responsibility, offers whatever assistance he can, and owns his actions. Man up. Stop being such a wimp, and man up. You hear of so many of these instances, of hit and run. It is very unbecoming of a man to commit an act like this. This is simply not something Bond would do.

One of the issues at stake here, I believe, is the lack of penalties for hit and run. In my country, hit and run is a very serious offense, and usually results in prison time. Here, it is more like an additional 1000 baht fine, and a slap on the wrist. Why is that? Why is the judiciary so weak here? What is up with that?

Happens every day in LOS, why even bother to write about news like this, driver get caught in a couple of days, slap on the wrist, 500 bath fine, community service for some months, then back to work as a truck driver again.

News stories serve multiple purposes. Warning and educating the public is one aspect. As for predicting what will happen to the driver(s), I find it best not to speculate since I don't follow-up on all accidents or know-all-see-all.

That sewage truck driver is gonna be in even deeper doodoo than usual. RIP poor lady. All the usual reasons: poor/no traffic law enforcement, lack of license and/or license too easy to get, lack of training and common sense,  mai pen rai attitude "didn't happen to me so why should I care?".....

the rest of the article is even more strange!

"Police were keen to speak with the truck driver, named as Khun Duan aged 38 by work colleagues, but he decided to run away from the scene of the crash before authorities arrived.

Police are now searching for the truck driver who is expected to be charged over the crash, when found.

Where did it say they spoke to him?

I'm confused, did she die or not? The title says "fatal" but the story says her condition "unknown."

As i only speak 6 languages and english is only the 5th ,i did  understand "keen "as happy.

Lucky you are there to correct me ,thank you very much.

Since you are so punctual, are you really  happy to live in Thailand?

Correct my mistakes please ,so i can learn.

If you would ever be able to write in another language ,i will gladly correct your mistakes.

Exactly. Where are they going to run to ?

They are Thai.

The guv. knows who they are.

When there is no where to run, no where to hide, turn thineself in and get on with it. wai.gif

Same. It's crazy how every little bit of hole, if they could fit, they will struggle to fit in even in that last second.
