Hi,

Would it be possible to strip a car into parts and send over bit by bit to avoid tax?

Also would it be possible to ship the car to Cambodia and drive it to thailand to also avoid tax?

Thanks

The chassis is the real issue.. It's recognizable and will present you problems as all junked cars shipped in for scrap are required to be cut into pieces. The rules for used parts has been thrown around so many times recently as many have previously done what you're considering as it was/is common practice for importers that it's tough to know what response you're going to get from customs? Don't think shipping to Cambo is going to help much, it will still be subject to Thai import laws and taxes if brought into and registered in Thailand for permanent use in Thailand. I looked into this years ago as I was hoping to do that with some cars myself..

Even if you succeed you will run the risk that it can be seized by customs at a later date.

Not sure how it would work if you shipped in the main parts are a salvage car project, duty should be less if it was a stripped car. You would need to have different serial numbers for engine and trans so that they did not say it was a scam.

Sending it to Cambodia, which has much the same import regs as Thailand, then bringing it into Thailand (tax on tax) is cunning. You'll end up paying 500% ++ tax and duties. If you wanna throw money away that badly, why don't you buy a bar?

Buy a local scrapped car, import the parts and rebuild using the registration of the scrapped car.

How would you account for different engine and chassis numbers?

Wouldn't recommend buying a scrap car... Just a really old piece of junk that still has its official registration docs

Understand the chassis number would be the same, assuming the old car he is buying must have a chassis ?

For the engine, he should make sure when buying the old car that the correct engine on the docs is with the car...

Then can buy a new engine and get the new engine pit on the docs... Haven't gone through the whole process, but knowmif is possible

As a number of years ago... FIL had old farm truck and engine blew... He bought a new engine and he had to go through process to get the number from the new engine on the truck docs...

Part of that process is satisfactorily proving the origin of the 'new' engine though.
